Secretly, Lucas reveled in his magnanimity, brushing off Alex’s past involvement with Maggie as heenvisioned a future where she would belong exclusively to him once they exchanged vows.

The thought of indulging in passionate nights with such a stunning woman thrilled him to no end,especially since he had been deprived of intimacy since his unfortunate injury.

Alex’s expression had also darkened as he clenched his fists tightly. Finally free from the constraints oftheir familial ties, he felt compelled to teach Lucas a long-overdue lesson if he reverted to his old ways.

Carmen’s dissatisfaction grew with Maggie’s response. In her eyes, Lucas was the epitome ofexcellence. She couldn’t comprehend how Maggie could reject him in favor of someone as useless asAlex.

Fueled by her indignation. Carmen lashed out. “You should consider yourself lucky that my son hastaken an interest in you. How dare you deem him unworthy and ruin my daughter’s marriage? Today,yours truly shall teach you a lesson.”

Carmen rolled up her sleeves and charged fiercely toward Maggie. Just as she was about to land atight slap on Maggie’s face, Alex swiftly intervened.

He grasped Carmen’s raised hand with one hand and delivered a firm slap to her cheek with the other.

“You best control yourself. She’s not someone you can afford to provoke,” he said coldly.

His actions were driven by the knowledge of Maggie’s influential background as the eldest daughter ofthe powerful Grant family in Lumenopolis. It would be a piece of cake for them to crush Heather’sfamily if they chose to.

Maggie would never let things slide if Carmen crossed her, and the Jenningses would face significantrepercussions. The sole motivation behind Alex’s intervention, preventing Carmen from making anyreckless move, was her role as Heather’s mother.
