The two stared at each other for a moment before Heather finally broke the silence, “Is it bad?”
After all, Heather still cared about Alex.

“It’s fine. Nothing to worry about.” Alex gave her a soft smile as if he were not bothered by it at all.

“What the hell does that mean?” Heather’s face darkened as she looked daggers at Alex.
“What?” Alex was puzzled at her response, “Nothing! I was just trying to remind you to make the mostout of this rare opportunity. What else did you think I was trying to say?”
Alex was not trying to make fun of Heather at all.
Heather scoffed at him before changing the subject.

“Maybe you should think about your son first before you try to play hero again next time. I’m sure youenjoy being the hero but one day your son may just lose his father!”
“I know. I wouldn’t have done that if I weren’t sure that I could pull it off,” Alex explained himself.
“If you were so sure then why are you hurt now?”
Heather jabbed at Alex, “If the bullet somehow landed on your head or your heart instead of shoulder,would you still be so sure of yourself?”
Alex shrugged his shoulder to indicate that he was not interested in continuing on with the subject.
“You should go pick him up soon.” Alex tried to change the subject.
“I know. I don’t need you to remind me,” Heather scoff
at him again.
Alex pouted as he did not know how else to respond.
“Have you had anything yet? Should I get you something to eat?” asked Heather.
“No. Just leave me be. I don’t feel like eating.” Alex shook his head in response.
“Have it your way,” Heather scoffed one last time before leaving the hospital.
Alex rested until 5.30 pm before requesting to be discharged as the wound was nothing to him. All hehad to do was to utilize his inner energy to heal himself back at home and he would be good as new ina few days.
After a few days of recovery, along with the help of some home remedy that Alex prepared himself, hisshoulder was almost healed up completely.

Alex wanted to go to the office today but Heather just told him that her cousin, Harper was engaged toHenry so she needed Alex to send a gift over to them as she had to attend to some business.
“You piece of trash, why are you only here now?” Alex’s brother–in–law yelled at him when he saw himwalking in casually.
Alex frowned but decided to ignore Lucas as he handed the gift to Carmen.
Carmen took over the gifts with displeasure written all over her face. “What took you so long? You onlyhad one job, yet you can’t even do it well!”
Shrugging his shoulder in response, Alex decided to just ignore Carmen.
Carmen got even more upset when she noticed the crumpled T–shirt Alex was wearing. “Are youdumb?– Don’t you know what day it is today? Are you trying to embarrass our family by dressing uplike that?”
“Alright, that’s enough. Everyone knows how useless your family’s live–in son–in–law is. Nobody willgive him a second thought.” A middle–aged woman interrupted and she turned out to be Harper’smother,– Lucy.
Alex thought Lucy was trying to speak out for him but it was not until she finished speaking that Alexrealized she meant otherwise. Who knew sarcasm can be this creative.
What Lucy said only served to intensify Carmen’s disappointment in Alex.
