Since Remington thought she was just making a fuss, Lizetta decided she'd let him think that way. Inthat case, he wouldn't overthink things at least.

With a scoff, Lizetta pushed against the man's hold and sat up from his embrace, saying, "Mr. Dashiell, you're always caught up in a whirlwind of activities, handling a million things a day. If you weren'tsincere about watching the show, you could've simply stayed away."

As Remington heard this, his eyes softened slightly, and his voice turned mellow, "How can you say Iwasn't sincere? I had to leave because Stella suddenly felt phantom limb pain."

Lizetta cut him off with a cold laugh, "Oh, her phantom limb sure has a sense of timing."novelbin

"Lizetta!"

Remington's voice suddenly dropped, interrupting her acrid comments, a stern look crossing his face.

"Why have you become so mean?"

The sight of Stella tormented by her bloody phantom limb wasn't something one could fake.

Lizetta shivered at his harsh words, her face turning pale, her lips trembling slightly.

She'd almost believed in the man's persistent attempts to woo her with his tenderness and care thisperiod of time, forgetting he was never really a soft-hearted person.

"I've always been a selfish and mean person, Mr. Dashiell. It's only now you're realizing it. What?Found out I'm not as adorable as you thought, and now you can't keep up your act of deep affection? Then don't. Even I feel exhausted for you."

She curled her lips into a mocking smile, her eyes filled with scorn, yet the icy barrier around her heartseemed to crack, aching slowly.

Remington's jaw tightened, a storm brewing in his eyes as he stared at Lizetta as if he could devourher whole.

Lizetta met his gaze defiantly, her eyes reddening.

"Mr. Dashiell, Mr. Dashiell, it sounds so harsh!"

Day by day, it gave him a headache. Remington finally uttered the words after a long while, and thencoldly turned away.

He reached out and massaged the bridge of his nose, overwhelmed and helpless against her. Hecouldn't scold her, couldn't argue; even a slightly harsh tone would have her retaliating with ten more, leaving him in pain.

Lizetta also turned away, looking out the car window.

The atmosphere in the car was tense for a while until Lizetta felt a chill around her neck. Looking down, she saw a diamond necklace cascading down her fair neck.

The deep, dreamy purple-pink diamond droplet, at least seven or eight carats, set in a simple classicdesign, glittered against her collarbone.

"I bought it at the auction yesterday, a gift for your performance. Congratulations on a successfulshow," Remington said calmly.

He was clasping the necklace around her neck, a bit close to her, his breath warm on her skin.

Lizetta stiffened, realizing he'd gone to the auction for this reason. She felt a lump in her throat, saying,"You always do this." "How so?"

Carrot and stick technique - even if the carrot was exceptionally costly, it couldn't sweeten the taste inher mouth because it was never what she truly desired.

Lizetta shook her head slightly, not wanting to argue anymore. She let Remington put the necklace onher, and allowed him to hold her close.

Back at Oakridge Heights, Lina greeted them with a smile.

"Mrs. Dashiell, welcome back! Congratulations. Mr. Dashiell had me prepare.”

She was cut off as Lizetta briskly passed her, saying, "I'm gonna go upstairs and take a shower. I'm tootired." Lina paused, watching Lizetta's figure quickly ascend the stairs, then turned to Remington, "Mr.Dashiell." Remington had asked her to prepare a cake and a candlelit dinner, but with the mood now,Lina felt at a loss. Remington's gaze turned frosty as he glanced towards the dining room and saidflatly, "Take it away."

With that, he too headed upstairs.

Entering the bedroom, he found

Lizetta at the vanity, removing her makeup. Her stage makeup was heavy, and she was meticulouslytaking it off.

Remington noticed the pink diamond necklace had already been removed and was lying on the vanity.
