Chapter 373

Remington was sitting in the lounge area with the chairman of the Bright Group, finalizing the last of thecontracts for their joint development project.

The man looked up upon hearing the words, his handsome features expressionless but his gaze icy. Itwas as if he was saying, “Give me a good reason, or you’re out.”

Remington had thrown up that morning and hadn’t had much of an appetite all day. Hungry and havingfought with his wife, the CEO was more than a little terrifying.

Cedric felt a shiver run down his spine as he quickly approached, leaning in to whisper to Remington.

“Your wife was forcibly taken to the hospital by your mother.”

Before he could finish, Remington’s expression changed ever so slightly before he composed himself. He extended his hand to Mr. Bright, saying, “Mr. Bright, apologies for the family matter. The StarlightGroup is willing to give up another point in the profit share. I’ll let Mr. Grover discuss the rest with you.”

Mr. Bright, hearing that Remington was willing to concede a point, immediately let go of anydispleasure. He stood up, smiling, and wanted to say, “Mr. Dashiell, please, go ahead.”

But before he could reply, Remington had already vanished from the office. Mr. Bright stroked his chin, wondering what on earth happened.

He had never seen this Dashiell Group’s CEO, who, though young, was always able to remaincomposed and sophisticated in the business world, become irritable.

On the operating table.

Lizetta felt a chill to her bones upon hearing Hanna’s words. Held down firmly, she suddenly lost allstrength to struggle.

She stared at Hanna, lips quivering, “Remi would never…”

Hanna scoffed, “No matter how much he loves you, he will not allow the Dashiell family bloodline to betainted. The necessary checks must be carried out!”

Feeling as if her blood had turned to ice, Lizetta let out a hollow laugh, almost in despair, and closedher

eyes.

She stopped trying to struggle, knowing it was futile, “Just let me be. I’ll cooperate.”

She spoke with difficulty, word by word. She felt humiliated enough and didn’t want to be treated like anobject any longer.

The nurses looked to Hanna, who nodded.

“If only you had cooperated like this from the start.”

The nurses backed off slightly, and the doctor found the spot to insert the needle.

As the needle pierced her skin, followed by the burning pain, Lizetta clenched the sides of theoperating table, her knuckles turning white.

She turned her head, a tear escaping her eye. She thought to herself, “Joy, I’m sorry. I can’t protectyou. All I can do is lie here passively, trying to minimize the harm to you. Am I a disappointment, Joy?Do y feel let down by your mom?”

With a bang, the door was suddenly thrown open, and someone rushed in.

But it was too late; the procedure was already done, the needle withdrawn. Lizetta kept her eyesclosed, not moving, just gripping the sides of the table, her hands trembling slightly.

She thought it was Remington and didn’t want to see him. However, the footsteps hurried over, and thevoice that spoke wasn’t Remington’s.

“Liz? How are you? What is this madness? Ignoring a patient’s wishes, have you no medical ethics?”

It was Hogan. Lizetta’s eyes snapped open, “Hogan?”

He took Lizetta’s hand, sliding his arm around her shoulder, and gently lifted her from the table, askingwith concern, “Are you alright? Sorry, I’m late.”

He had been at a farewell dinner a colleague insisted on hosting at a restaurant across from thehospital.novelbin

Afterwards, a colleague mentioned returning a couple of medical books he had borrowed, so hedecided to swing by the hospital to pick them up.

Just then, he overheard two nurses chatting about how tough it was to be a wealthy matron, who hadto be forcefully brought in for an amniocentesis.

Yet, despite rushing over, he was still a step too late.
