“You wanted to know, I only told you what I knew,” I pulled my body closer, raising my shoulders till theytouched my ears, and sat like a scared kitten.

“Our father was an alpha in his time before he took over the role of the leader of the council. Then, afterthe alpha kings mysteriously lost wars and vanished, there were only alphas left to take care of thepacks. The council and all the alphas decided to give my father the power to choose alpha kingsbecause he has proven himself worthy of appreciation many times. Now we are the alpha kings of thenorth, south, east, and west. Our pack, The Golden Crown, is the chief centre of all the packs, so wetake care of matters from here. I am in charge of the Northern packs, Helel takes care of the Southernpacks, Zane is taking care of the Eastern, and Maddox is the alpha king of the Western packs,” Akindidn’t delve more into the comments I made and decided to just teach me instead.

Akin stared at Helel and then looked my way as he waited for me to answer him.

“Helel is — the alpha king of—-,” I hated myself for being so d*um*b. It was as if the history of our kinddidn’t intrigue me.

“Are you for real?” Akin sighed, pulling away from the counter and folding his hands on his chest.

“She is so d*um*b in the head,” and that comment wasn’t made by any of them. In fact, it was made bysomeone who I didn’t think would say that about me.

“Zane! When did you come back?” Helel asked him, but I didn’t turn around to look at his face. Hiscomment deeply upset me.

“When you guys were wasting your time trying to teach her anything. Do you know she learned nothingin school the other day?” Zane was talking about me without taking my feelings into consideration.

“She takes medications, and they may affect her memory,” Akin immediately defended me.

“But how much can something affect your memory? She is plain stupid. I mean, no offense to her, butshe does not know a single thing about herself,” Zane laughed, making fun of me.

“You are not very bright either.” It was then that Helel spoke up, “Tell me why you beat up that clubowner?” Now that he was getting investigated, he wasn’t smirking.

The two brothers folded their muscular arms over their chests and stared at Zane, who was at a lossfor words.

“He was being rude.” Zane walked past them to the refrigerator to get a bottle of beer when Helelslammed the door shut, not letting him grab the bottle before he answered them.

“You cannot do whatever you want just because you are an alpha king. We are supposed to take careof this pack and the packs that are under our supervision.” Akin advised him while Zane nodded. I bethe didn’t learn anything either.

“Repeat what Akin just taught you.” The moment I said that, I noticed them turning their heads towardme in silence. They stared at my face for a few seconds before Helel and Akin turned around and

started laughing. They were trying to be secretive because Zane was looking at me with an annoyedlook on his face.

“Don’t compare me with yourself. I know what he taught me,” Zane grunted and shook his head. Helooked furiously at me.

“Okay! Calm down now.” Akin broke the tension by breaking Zane’s icy stare from my face and turninghis attention to himself.

“Since there is news of a deadly storm, I don’t want anyone to leave the mansion. We need to stayfocused and available just in case we are required for help.” Helel patted Zane’s back after he grabbedhis shaker and left the kitchen after Akin. My interaction with Helel and Akin was quite different todaythan any other day. I began to think maybe they would accept me into their lives if I made slowprogress and connected with them. Little did I know, my other mate wasn’t happy about something.

“You think I am d*um*b?” Zane slammed his hand on the counter before me and shook me into pullingaway from him.

“We were all joking,” I responded in a mild tone.

“No! We were not. Just because they laughed at your joke, you started acting like a clown.” Zane’s tallbody was bent over the counter as he glared at my face.

“Bu—,” I don’t know why he got so angry at me when it should have been the other way around. Notonly did he leave me unattended last night, but he also made some rude comments toward me.

“Shut up! I don’t want to hear from you now,” he warned me as he waved his finger in my face andwalked away from the counter.

“Okay! I will go to my room then,” I uttered, and as soon as I turned around to leave, I heard Zaneanswering someone’s call.

“You are coming home, Maddox?” he asked, but it wasn’t like he was confirming. He seemed stunned.

“Listen, you don’t sound too good right now. How about you calm down first and then—,” Zane stoppedtalking, and when I turned over to look at him, I found him staring at his phone. Maddox had hung upon him, it seemed.

“You! Go hide in your room.” Zane raised his face and made direct eye contact with me. His commandwas enough to make me jump out of my skin.

“He is very mad at you.” Zane had a mixture of emotions on his face; he looked petrified.
