Rosella only withdrew her gaze once Camryn was with Tasha.

Rosella laughed. “She’s precious, alright. To the Yorks, all daughters-in-law are treasures that deserve to be doted on andcherished by the whole family.
“My boy Callum only got married when he turned thirty. It wasn’t easy, and | only have one daughter-in-law now, so it’s natural topamper her and treat her like a precious person.”
Rosella made no secret of her satisfaction and love for her daughter-in-law.
Her friend laughed. “The men of your family are famous for pampering their wives a lot and the women are famous for doting ontheir daughters-in-law. | don’t have any daughters, but if | did, | would do anything to latch onto you guys and become your in-laws.
“This is your daughter-in-law’s first public appearance at a gathering like this, but she’s not shy at all, and is in fact verycharming. | thought her mother would have ruined her.

Rosella said, “Camryn suffered for the last two decades or so, but from now on, for the rest of her life, she'll live like a queen.”She had them to dote on her!
“It looks like quite a few people look down on your daughter-in-law,” Rosella’s friend whispered, lest someone else heard it.
“Whatever other people think of Camryn is their problem. Even the best, most perfect person will have haters. Camryn doesn’tcare or mind as long as we don’t look down on her. To her, others are just that—they’re irrelevant.”
Rosella looked at her friend again and asked, “You don’t look down on Camryn for being formerly blind, do you?”
“Why would I? You don’t know how envious | am of you. Your daughter-in-law is so much better than mine—all she knows is tospend, spend, spend. She has zero eye for investment, unlike your Camryn who easily took control of the Newmans’ business.
“So what if she used to be blind? She has a good character, is principled and capable. She’s already so much better thancountless people out there. People who look down on her are just envious of her—envious of her excellence and fortune.
“Your boy Callum is very popular with women, you know. There are lots of girls who had a crush on him. You guys just didn’tknow.
“They're just jealous because of how loving your son and daughter-in-law are.”
Rosella laughed. “Let them be hateful green-eyed monsters then. Us York ladies have always been the subject of envy.”
Her good friend could not help but laugh. “That's true indeed. All the women in your family are subjects of envy, jealousy, andhatred indeed.
