Chapter 2266

Duncan had his own selfish reason too. He wanted to bond with Sonny like father and son, and be a

better father than Hank had been, even though he was already ahead of him. He wanted all

Wiltspoonians to know how fond he was of Sonny.

Duncan wanted to be Sonny’s stepfather. If his dream came true, he would be the father that Sonny

deserved.

In fact, Liberty was aware of Duncan’s little sneaky plan. Still, she did not stop him. Liberty responded,

“You can pick Sonny up from preschool later if you don’t mind Sonny bugging you.”

While enjoying breakfast, Duncan said, “I will never mind. Sonny might have his moments, but he’s a

sensible kid. He plays with himself when the adults are at work.”

Three-year-olds were curious and emotional creatures, so it was understandable that they would act up

sometimes. They were still learning how to control their emotions and express their curiosity in a

constructive way.

Sometimes, Duncan would receive silly and strange questions from Sonny that he could not answer. To

answer Sonny's endless questions, Duncan bought plenty of reading materials for children to study

when he had free time.

Arguably, he had put in a lot of work to build a close bond with Sonny.novelbin

On the other hand, Hank as Sonny’s biological father had not done nearly as much.

“Where were you this morning, Liberty? You returned to the diner quite late.”

Now that he had received Liberty’s approval to fetch Sonny from school, Duncan asked about what had

happened in the morning.

Liberty often arrived at the diner around half-past seven as it was the diner’s busiest period.

She fell silent for a while before answering, “I went to York Corporation to discuss something with

Zachary.”

“What about? Anything I can help you with? Their wedding is moved up since your sister is pregnant.

Zachary is especially busy now. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you need anything. There is no need to

bother Zachary.”

Duncan's jealousy of his best friend was evident in his tone.

The first person to jump into Liberty’s mind when she needed help was her sister, Serenity. If Serenity

was not in a position to help Liberty, Zachary would take over and assist her.

The way Duncan saw it, Zachary was in the loop for whatever Liberty told Serenity.

Duncan hoped Liberty would think about him first whenever she met with trouble as he was more than

willing to share Liberty’s burden.

“You can’t help with the matter. The villa doesn’t belong to you.”

Duncan looked at her with a twinkle in his eyes. “Have you decided to move?”

Liberty pursed her lips and replied, “I bumped into a drunk man on my way out to drop Sonny off at

preschool. He found which unit I was staying in and said he had been looking for me all night.

“A neighbor told me that he was recently heartbroken and had been drowning his sorrows in alcohol.

He drinks and sleeps anywhere, and he stares at any woman who passes by. The people in the

neighborhood avoid him whenever they see him. I’m worried he might be coming after me, so I’m

taking your advice to move into the villa for Sonny and Seren’s sake.”

Her rented place in East Hill Apartments was located in a considerably safe neighborhood but still fell

short of the security a high-end villa area provided.

If the drunk man’s incident never happened, Liberty had no intention of moving.

“Did the drunk man scare you and Sonny?”

He then ran his mouth, "I can't believe he would target you when I'm here to protect you!"
