Chapter 2241

Liberty drew close and stared at Duncan and Sonny, who could be mistaken for father and son.

She did not wake them both up. Instead, Liberty looked around the room. The servers had completed a

round of cleanup before their shift ended, leaving the restaurant in tip-top shape.

It was the restaurant’s opening day. In addition to the invited friends and family, the restaurant opened

its doors to many customers. Liberty offered a discount and a small souvenir to all patrons.

Liberty had just balanced the book for today, and the profits were a lot more than her breakfast diner’s.

Nevertheless, the restaurant was only packed on its first day of business, thanks to the VIP guests.

Only time would tell if her business would continue to thrive.

Liberty was confident that her restaurant would surpass the success of her breakfast diner.

She would then move on to the next goal once she achieved the one at hand.

Liberty gently pulled a chair and sat down, quietly watching the man and the boy who had been there

for her until the very end.

Everybody else had left, including Serenity. Liberty was not going to let her pregnant sister stay late

into the night. She had told Zachary to take Serenity home right after lunch.

Other friends and family had gone their separate ways throughout the afternoon.

The ones who kept her company into the wee hours were her son, Sonny, and a long-time admirer,

Duncan.

Duncan had lost a significant amount of weight during his hospitalization, but he pulled himself

together, was in a better place mentally, and started regaining weight after being discharged.

He often said that he would have let himself go if he had not persisted in the rehabilitation program.

Duncan even asked Liberty whether she would like him if he continued to neglect himself.

Liberty simply smiled and replied, “I bet a lot of people will still like you even if you packed some

pounds.

She removed herself from the picture in her answer.

Duncan would always pout and retort, “Those people don’t like me for who I am. They only have eyes

for my social status and what I can offer them.”

Liberty asked, “Shouldn’t you be concerned that I could be a gold digger, going after your money and

power too?”

Duncan would look at her with a twinkle in his eyes. “I’m not concerned because I thought you were like

everyone else, but you’re different.”

Liberty could only smile at the comment.

She had gotten herself in a mess during their first encounter, and the situation did not improve during

the next.

He had seen her at her worst, but Duncan never held it against her.

Liberty observed as Duncan wrapped his arms around Sonny’s tiny body in his sleep to prevent the boy

from falling off the edge.

He adored Sonny from the bottom of his heart.

Duncan admitted that he felt a connection with the boy first, then paid more attention to the mother.novelbin

“Mr. Lewis… Duncan…”

Liberty softly called out the stubborn man’s name.

She reached out to touch Duncan’s face, but her courage waned. In the end, she ran her fingers along

her son’s face.

The caress did not wake the little man, but he stirred in his sleep.

Duncan was startled by the stir.
