Chapter 2199
It was Jasmine’s turn.
Ultimately, she and Josh were fated for each other.
Josh found her hilarious and had a deep impression of her lying down. Therefore, he readily agreed to
go on a blind date with her when Zachary introduced her to him.
“Serenity’s luckier than me. Her in-laws are truly open-minded people. Mr. York is also a person who
keeps his promises. With him and Grandma May on Serenity’s side, she won’t experience any drastic
changes in her lifestyle even after getting pregnant.
“Unlike me, she can do whatever she wants. I had to bear my mother-in-law’s displeasure even though
I just wanted to manage the bookstore. I wanted to follow Seren and Elisa on a visit to the vegetable
farm we bought, but my mother-in-law stopped me because it was too far.”
Actually, the journey was only a little more than an hour by car.
They could even arrive at the destination in an hour if the traffic were smooth.
“Let’s stop complaining. You’re doing fine as you are now. Josh is the only one married in his
generation in the family. The baby in your womb is the first of the Bucham family’s next generation.
This pregnancy is important to everyone.
“It’s a given that they’ll pay extra attention to you. It’s better to be prioritized than neglected.”
Mrs. Sox gave her daughter some advice. “You’re married and no longer just a child of our family. You
can’t do anything freely like you did in the past. Your parents may tolerate you, but you’re a daughter-
in-law to your husband’s family after marriage. Therefore, you have to be considerate of your husband
and in-laws.”
“That’s why simply being the daughter of my family was the best, but you said I was doing nothing tonovelbin
earn my keep and kept urging me to get married.”
After Jasmine was done washing the dishes, she said, “I was just ranting, Mom. I know I’m fortunate.”
“That’s good. You have to bear the consequences of your choices. You should’ve been prepared to
withstand a wealthy family’s rules since the day you decided to marry Josh. To be honest, your in-laws
don’t have that many rules. It’s much better than your aunt’s situation back then.
“When your aunt had just married into the Lowe family, she had to wake up early every day and
prepare breakfast for her in-laws. She was not allowed to eat before her in-laws started eating. Also,
she had to tend to her in-laws’ requests during mealtimes too. Frankly speaking, she was like a maid.
However, even a maid had a salary. Your aunt didn’t.
“When her mother-in-law was still around, Rachel did not have many chances to visit her family. If the
visits got frequent, her mother-in-law would scold her for only caring about her own family instead of
her in-laws. Her mother-in-law also told her that she could just remain with her family and needn’t
return if she liked returning to her family so much.
“Rachel was utterly aggrieved, but she still had to force a smile and continue serving her in-laws. Gifts
given to her family during visits had to be prepared according to their custom. She could not pick
presents solely based on her preference. The amount of money she provided her parents was also
based on the Lowe family’s rules. Not even a penny extra. However, giving a lesser amount than the
one stated was allowed.
“Your dad and I couldn’t even stay over at your aunt’s house when we visited her. The food was
tasteless with all the restrictions. Your current situation is more than a hundred times better than your
aunt’s.”
Mrs. Sox had witnessed her sister-in-law’s journey in the Lowe family.
“You still can run the bookstore, manage your business, and earn money. Back in Rachel’s time, she
wasn’t even allowed to eat anything outside. She had to inform us of the food she craved beforehand
for it to be prepared. She would eat in secret for fear that the maids who followed her would tattle on
her when they went back.
“Having a business was even more unheard of. Your aunt had no choice but to assist her husband and
educate her son at home. After giving birth to Shawn, her mother-in-law did not let her form a close
relationship with her son, the reason being she was soft-hearted, which would spoil him.
“Rachel’s days only improved after her in-laws had passed away and she had become the decision-
maker in the family.”
Jasmine said, “I knew Aunt Rachel had a tough life when she first married into the Lowe family, but I
didn’t know it was that harsh.”
She could recall that Aunt Rachel often returned to her family to rant about the hardships she faced in
her in-laws’ house.
However, as Jasmine grew older, her aunt would smile whenever she came back for a visit.
