Angeline placed her keys on the shoe cabinet and glanced at her watch. It was only 4:25 pm.Henrietta’s school was still ongoing.

After changing her shoes and putting away the groceries in the kitchen, she walked to Henrietta’sroom door.

She knocked on the door and asked, “Henrietta, why are you back so early today?”

Three consecutive knocks on the other side of the door came in response.

That was a signal for Angeline to wait. Angeline lowered her gaze and looked from the water stainson the floor to the slippers leading to the bathroom. Frowning, she recalled the bruises onHenrietta’s wrist from that day.

A terrifying thought crossed her mind–school bullying. Angeline bit her lip as she stood at the doorof Henrietta’s room, her mind swirling in turmoil. Eventually, she returned to the kitchen to preparedinner.

After changing her clothes and drying her hair, Henrietta came out of her room and jogged to thekitchen.

Seeing Angeline wash the vegetables, she stepped forward to help. She gestured that she hadslipped today while carrying water for cleaning. Her clothes were soaked, so the teacher allowedher to leave early.

Angeline observed Henrietta’s bright eyes, which held no trace of sorrow. Feeling a sense of relief,Angeline continued chopping vegetables.

Angeline said, “I’ve arranged for you to be excused from school tomorrow. We’ll go to Cloudsville. You’ll be transferring to Cloudsville High School next semester. You’ll need to interview tomorrow.”

She continued, “If you pass the interview, you’ll need to take some tests to assess your level to beplaced in the appropriate class. But given your grades, getting into the top class shouldn’t be aproblem.”

Even though Henrietta was an uncommon case and she couldn’t speak, she had no issues withhearing or with other aspects. Although Marion’s assistance may help with Henrietta’s enrolment,Cloudsville High School still wanted to interview Henrietta to understand her specific condition.

Henriette nodded and motioned with her hands to reassure Angeline.

Angeline smiled at Henrietta’s expectant look and gently brushed her forehead against Henrietta’s.She was determined to look after Henrietta well so Anne might rest in peace.

On Friday, Henrietta went for the interview at Cloudsville High School. Angeline waited at a cafeacross the school. At the same time, she made a reservation at a restaurant for a private room totreat her fellow lab seniors to a meal.

Right after she sent the message in the group chat, a middle–aged man in a suit stood before her.

He offered her a card with both hands and said smilingly, “Hello, Ms. Emmerson. Our chairmanwould like to meet you.”

The name written on the business card was Robert Lawson–Angeline’s biological grandfather.

Startled, Angeline looked up at the smiling gentleman in front of her.

She asked, “Who are you?”

“I’m Mr. Lawson’s assistant, Asher Millstone.” novelbin

Asher turned sideways and gestured to invite Angeline to follow him.

He said, “Please…”

The only memory she had of Robert was when he held her birth mother in his arms and got into thecar to leave. At that time, Robert didn’t even spare her a single glance. Yet, he suddenly wanted tomeet her. She wondered if The Family Search had implicated her birth mother.

As her heart filled with doubt and worry, Angeline followed Asher to the car parked by the roadside.Asher opened the rear door. Robert was seated in the back seat.

He was wearing a gray wool coat. His hair was neatly combed as he sat with his legs crossed. Helooked refined with a pair of glasses. However, the presence of an esteemed businessman withmany years of experience was still very intimidating.

Angeline clutched her bag and got into the car. Asher was waiting outside with the driver to givethem some privacy.

Angeline didn’t know how to address Robert.

She greeted cautiously, “Hello.”
