Chapter 257 Why Are You Speaking Up For Them

At Penny's angered shout, the Smiths' heads swiveled to look at her.

Contrary to how friendly and warm he looked days ago when he had sold the land to her, Sean's face

was now cold and indifferent.

In a casual tone, he said, "Penny, how could you not greet your elders upon meeting them? Losing

your temper like a child, how disrespectful!”

Enraged, Penny accused, "Grandpa, you clearly know that the plot of land at Phoenix could not be

used, so why did you sell it to me? Aren't you setting me up by doing this?"

"Why can't it be used? I don't know anything about that," Sean replied with a shrug.

"That land is an ecological reserve and can't be developed. Don't tell me none of you know about this."

Blinking his eyes, the old man answered, "Oh, really? I honestly don't know anything

about that."

Penny was completely speechless at how despicable and shameless they were being. Even now, they

insisted on not knowing the truth about that plot of land.

Taking in a deep breath, she struggled to contain her fury. Forcing as much calm into her voice as she

could, she stated, "Grandpa, since that land cannot be developed, I wish to formally cancel the deal we

made. We'll return the land to you and you refund our company. How does that sound?"

In an instant, Sean's expression darkened. "A deal's a deal. There's no room for regrets now."

"But the land...”

He cut her off, "That's your problem. I was only responsible for selling you the land, I never made any

guarantee that it was a development land."

Tears sprung to Penny's eyes as she cried in desperation, "Grandpa, you deliberately

tricked me!"

Fed up with playing coy, he sneered as he answered, "So what if I did? Business is business. There

can be no personal feelings involved, not even consideration for family. Besides, I've never really been

fond of you.

"I wanted some of your company's shares, yet you kept refusing me. What's wrong with me tricking you

then? If you're so indignant about it, you can try and sue me. However, I can assure you that you'll not

win a court case against me. Hahaha!"

Everyone else present burst into smug laughter.

Samuel mocked, "Oh, our sweet and gullible Penny. You really can't blame us for what we did. You can

only blame yourself for being such a fool. By the way, we earned two hundred million from the deal so

we'll be having a celebratory dinner tonight at Jade Hall. Would you like to join us?"

With that, the Smiths chortled mirthfully again.

Penny could only shake in impotent rage. There was nothing more she could do here.novelbin

Just as she was about to flee in humiliation, a familiar voice rang out from outside.

"Honey, I was wondering where you went."

Penny and the Smiths' heads spun to look in the direction of the voice. As they watched, a well-built

figure walked inside.

It was Nathan.

The solid warmth of his chest soothed her and the hurt she had been feeling lessened just a bit.

Wrapping his arms around her, he stroked her silky hair gently as he murmured,

"What's wrong?"

"They're bullying me!" she choked out. Content belongs to Draмa?ovеls.cом

That set the Smiths off and they instantly started shouting about how it was a consensual deal and how

unfair it was to call it bullying.

Penny's head snapped up as she stared in shock at Nathan. In a quavering voice, she demanded,

"Nathan, why are you speaking up forthem?"
