Chapter 1725

At 49 years old, Garrett Woods was the youngest member of the Great Cabinet. He was deemed a pragmatic and aspiring leader who kept a very lowprofile.

Prior to his cabinet appointment. he had served as the Governor of the North. During his tenure, he put an end to the riots in the North, restored lawand order, and greatly enhanced its security. The agriculture and manufacturing industries flourished and attained unprecedented growth. Quality oflife was significantly improved.

When he relinquished his position as the Governor of the North to join the Great Cabinet, people of the North filled the streets and sent him off intears.

Back then, Nathan was a new addition to theNorth Army. He had seen Garrett's caliber and had witnessed the results of his work. Hence, Nathan thought very highly of him.

Though he respected Garrett very much, their paths rarely crossed. This was because one of them served on the frontier battlefield whereas theother was in the cabinet.

Never in a million years did Nathan imagine he would run into Garrett's wife and daughter, Paisley Lauren and Maisy Woods, at the supermarket!

Paisley also learned that the young man standing before her with a muscular physique and twinkling eyes was the General of the North, NathanCross.

However astonished they were to have met one another coincidentally, the one who was most shocked had to be Benny.

Leveraging on his wealth and connections with fellow gang members in the underworld, he had been oppressing any poor soul who was in his way.Alas, he tasted his own medicine by offending the General of the North as well as the wife of a cabinet member.

The Captain bawled him out. “You have some nerve to fight the General and to lay a finger on Mrs. Woods.”

Hearing that, Benny could not hold himself together and collapsed to the ground

He was drenched in his own cold sweat while begging for mercy in a trembling voice. General, Mrs. Woods, it's all my fault. I was ignorant and I'veoffended you badly. Please forgive me.

Please let me go just this once!”

Nathan replied caldly, “Dream on! You were acting like you're above the law. From cutting the line to being an arrogant savage. your actions wereabhorrent to all. What's the purpose of law enforcement if we let you off the hook after you've said a few pathetic words of apology?

Oh no, there goes the next eight to ten years of my life in prison. Hopelessness crept into Benny as he sank into deep regret.Nathan commanded the Captain and his troop in a husky voice, “Arrest him and deal with the case seriously.“Yes, General!” Immediately, the armed forces took Benny away.

Carrying her daughter, Paisley went up to Nathan and expressed her appreciation. “General, thank you for saving us today. I can't imagine whatwould have happened to us if it

weren't for you.Nathan smiled. “I'm just doing what I should. No need to mention it.”Suddenly, Maisy said, "I remember you, General. I've seen you at the military parade. You were standing next to the President.”Nathan was stunned for a second before giving her a smile.

No wonder she was staring at me when we were lining up. She must have thought I looked familiar.

I guess she didn't recognize me in my casual attire because I was in uniform when she last saw mePaisley chuckled. "I had the impression that we've met before, but didn't recognize you at the first glance. Sorry about that.”

Nathan responded politely, “recognize me.

I'm just one of the many in the army who stays at the frontier, year in and year out. It's understandable for you not tonovelbin

Paisley clarified, “Don't say that. General. There are two biggest threats to the frontier of Eurasia, and the North was one of them.”

Paisley continued, "My husband
