Chapter 1379 The One I Truly Love Is You

Meanwhile, Nathan was staring at Klay and his son as he muttered, "Weren't you looking forColonel Henderson?”

Soon, Patrick realizing something was amiss so he turned to glare at Klay and Keller.

When both found out that Nathan was the General, they were shocked to the core.

Now, when Nathan's indifferent gaze and Patrick's glare landed on them; their knees went weak, thus, they fell to the ground and knelt before Nathan.

With a pale face and stuttering voice, Klay said, "G-General, we were blind fools for not recognizingyou. Please forgive us."

Keller was more terrified than his father was. He was lying sprawled on the ground as he trembled. The front of his pants was soaked, and there was a stench of urine in the air. Keller Lillard had peedhimself from fright.

Nathan answered, "It's true that you were blind fools. It's one thing to not recognize me, but it'sanother thing to break off the engagement with my friend Candice. She's an excellent woman, andyou're both blind idiots."

Friend?

Upon hearing his words, both Klay and Keller turned to look at Candice, who was standing in thecrowd, in shock.novelbin

The person they had ridiculed as a penniless woman from a garbage dump and broke off theengagement without her consent was a friend of the General!

Shock and regret overwhelmed both Klay and Keller.

If they had found out that Candice was an associate of the General, they would have never brokenoff the engagement; they would have taken her into the family with a grand wedding.

Nathan asked, "Do you know why I gave the plaque to the Lillard family?"

Klay really did not know why. He recalled that his eldest son was in the North Army, and he heardthat he was being valued for his abilities.

He could not help but ask, "Isn't it because my son, Joseph Lillard, is in the North Army. Isn't he asoldier you value?"

Joseph Lillard?

Nathan furrowed his brows before turning to Colin and the Elite Eight. "Do you remember thisperson?"

Although Colin was a man with a burly body and rough features; however, he was quite a sensitiveman and he had a good memory too. Otherwise, he would not have made it to become the Captainof National Guards.

Colin gave the name so thought before answering, "Yes. There was a captain by this name, but he'sa spy, and he's been arrested. The results of his punishment have yet to be announced. He's onlyallowed to call home to report on his wellbeing now. He's not any valued soldier."

Not only was Klay's eldest son not a valued soldier in the army, but he was also a criminal who wasserving his sentence now.

As Joseph used to be a good soldier in the military, the North Army had yet to inform the Lillardfamily.

Furthermore, everytime Joseph called home, he would lie to them, telling them that he was doingwell in the military.

Hence, that was why Klay assumed that it was because the General valued his eldest son when theLillard family received the plaque from the General.

Now, it seemed like that was not the case.

Nathan stared at the dumbstruck father and son and uttered, "I gave you the plaque because of myfriend, Candice."

Shock struck the two again as they turned to look at Candice with a complicated expression.

Candice, too, was staring back at them with a similar expression.

Nathan continued, "I only did this because you were going to be married to my friend. But, I havenever expected you to cling to the rich and the powerful while you despise the poor. I never thoughtthat you would break off the engagement without her consent before the wedding. This is ahumiliation for her and her family. This is unacceptable!"

When Klay and Keller finally understood why the General had given them the plaque, they wereremorseful and resentful.

They had a chance to build a relationship with the General, but they were the ones who gave theopportunity away and even crossed the General himself.

Klay lowered his head slightly as he shamelessly said, "General, allow me to be honest with you,the daughter-in-law our family wants is still Ms. Holland. We were wrong, and we regret what wedid. We want her to marry into our family. Please allow us to do that"

Keller quickly crawled his way to Candice and pleased her. "That's right, Candice. I know I was inthe wrong. The one I truly love is you. Will you please marry me now?"
