Chapter 978

Tobias had confidence in the Cadens’ influence.

Since he had made a statement to warn the forces, he believed no one would harm James.

He knew what James was doing but did not want to interfere or provide help.

Helping James would be tantamount to helping Mr. Lee, and others would think he had picked a side.

However, he could not take a stand before the martial art conference.

His actions would influence the whole situation, and all forces would quickly pick their sides. This was

not something he wanted to happen.

“Will there really be no danger?” Maxine frowned. “I’ve met Madelyn a few times. Although she’s

young, she’s a scheming girl who resorts to cunning means. Moreover, she’s the one who’s been

secretly making suggestions to Mr. Gabriel. It might’ve been her plan to use James’ hands to kill the

Emperor so that she could stir up the situation. After accomplishing her goal, James will no longer be

useful to her, and she might take unexpected actions.”

“What’s wrong? Are you worried about James?”

“Grandpa, I’m just worried the situation will become even more chaotic if James dies. The other three

families are already dissatisfied with us, and they may reach an agreement with Mr. Gabriel to kill

James and initiate a war,” Maxine explained.

“That won’t happen,” Tobias said with certainty. “Mr. Gabriel was the one who suggested the martial art

conference. Since he proposed it, he shouldn’t plan to instigate a fight between the Ancient Four just

yet.”

“Mhm.” Maxine did not pursue the matter any further. Instead, she focused her attention on the

chessboard.

Tobias also looked at the chessboard intently.

The room fell into silence.

After a few seconds, Tobias said, “If you’re worried, go and check for yourself.”

Maxine raised her head and looked at Tobias in confusion. She was puzzled as to what he meant.

Tobias said, “I’ve copied several sets of extraordinary martial art manuals from the library. These are

powerful techniques left behind by our ancestors. James might not be coming here to check them out

any time soon. You can go and have a look at the situation and also pass him the manuals while you’re

there. However, you’ll have to rush back before the Blithes arrive in the Capital.”

After he finished speaking, Tobias stood up.

While standing up, Tobias threw the chess piece in his hand on the board.

Clang!

A loud sound resounded.

The chessboard broke, and the chess pieces scattered everywhere.

Tobias put his hands behind his back and left.

Maxine’s heart was shaken.

She knew that Tobias was angry. Helplessness and sadness filled her pretty face.

After a few seconds, she stood up and followed him to the study.

Tobias took out the manuals he had copied by hand and passed them to Maxine. He said with a smile,

“Take it.”

“Grandpa.” Maxine lowered her head and did not dare to take the manuals.

“Take it!” Tobias roared furiously.

“Okay.” Maxine reached out and took the manuals.

“Go and come back within five days.”novelbin

As soon as Maxine turned around, Tobias called again, “Wait.”

“Is there something else, Grandpa?” Maxine turned around and asked with her head hanging low.

“Are you hiding something from me, Maxine?”

Hearing this, Maxine’s body trembled. She knelt to the ground instantly and said, “Grandpa, I have

nothing to hide from you.”

“Alright. I was just checking. Get up and go quickly. You must hand these manuals to James. Don’t lose

them. If anyone apart from him reads them, kill them.”

“Understood.” Maxine stood up and left in fear.

After leaving Tobias’ study, sweat rolled down her forehead.
