Chapter 899

Yvette took dozens of selfies with James upon recognizing him. In the last few, she was practically

hanging onto his body. The pose was ridiculous and also intimate.

“Oh, right.”

After taking the selfies, Yvette suddenly remembered something and asked, “Why were you looking for

me?”

“I’m here because of your brother.”

James blamed himself for what happened to those soldiers. He felt incredibly guilty.

He had reached out to the soldiers’ families and explained the situation. He also agreed to fulfill almost

all of their requests.

“Let’s find a place to sit down and talk.”

“Okay.” Yvette nodded.

The three of them left together.

Near Sunleigh High School, a cafe.

They sat down in a private room.

James began to explain what truly happened in the cavern.

“Your brother died because of me. I came to see you because I wanted to know if there was anything I

could do to help you.”

“Huff,” Yvette sighed.

“My brother has had it rough ever since he was a kid. He was forced to quit junior high and start

working to support us. Afterward, he joined the army and hardly ever came home. So, I rarely got to

see him. The last time I saw him was about half a year ago.”

After learning that her brother died during a mission, Yvette was devastated and did not eat for a few

days.

However, she had already dealt with her grief. Now, she simply lamented fate’s unfairness.

“Is there anything I could do for you?

“You’re Liam’s younger sister, so I’ll treat you as my younger sister as well. From now on, I’ll take care

of you. If you ever need help, just contact me, and I’ll do my best to help you,” James said guiltily.

Yvette did not blame James.

Although she was not a soldier, her brother would always say that as a soldier, he was prepared to die

for the country.

Moreover, James was not the person who killed her brother. It was the Emperor who sent people after

their lives, and he was already punished for his crimes.

“I don’t need anything. The government’s compensation is sufficient for me to survive until I graduate

from college.” Yvette shook her head gently.

“Give me your account number. I’ll transfer another ten million dollars to you. You can take it as a littlenovelbin

compensation.”

Yvette hurriedly waved her hand and rejected James’ offer. “Forget it. I don’t need it.”

She stood up and swung her hands, imitating wielding a sword, and said with a smile, “The Emperor’s

death shocked the world. The Black Shadow General of the Southern Plains announced that someone

had used the Blade of Justice to kill him. I know that the Black Dragon is the only person who can wield

that weapon. I hope you’ll stay true to your morals and not become a treacherous authority. Then, my

brother will rest in peace.”

Yvette waved goodbye and left with a smile.

Once she turned around, tears immediately flowed down her face.

In front of James, she pretended to be strong. However, she had lost her only relative and did not even

get to see him for the last time. The military only sent his funeral portrait back.

It would be a lie to say that she was not grieving.

“This young girl is incredibly mature.” Maxine, who had stayed silent the whole time, said after Yvette

left.

“She’s young but not tempted by money. Ten million dollars isn’t an amount ordinary people can earn in

their lifetime. Yet, she refused to accept it.”

James nodded and said, “Yeah. She’s a pretty good girl. Let’s go. We should get going too.”

The two stood up and prepared to leave.

As soon as they stood up, Yvette quickly ran back and hid behind James.

Soon, a loud shout sounded, “Where can you hide?!”

Following the voice, a young man walked into the cafe. It was Hugo, the male student who got beaten

up earlier.

He was accompanied by several burly men. They were the Doyles’ bodyguards.
