The woman was losing ground. Blood trickled down the wound on her arm and stained her whitedress. Regardless, she fought on, unwilling to yield.
“Is that Melany?”
James stood in mid-air and watched the battle below.
The woman’s aura felt familiar. Without the slightest hesitation, he descended from the sky andlanded steadily on the ground, yelling, “Stop right there!”
His voice boomed.
Hearing this, Melany and her opponent turned to look at James. When she saw him, Melany wasdumbfounded.

James paid no heed to him and walked toward Melany.

Unsure of her identity, James asked, “Melany Yanis?”
“Wh-Why are you here?” Melany immediately recognized James. This was the man whom shesaved.
“It really is you.” Hearing the familiar voice, James was now certain that the woman before him wasMelany.

The man behind them cursed and swung his sword, summoning a wave of Sword Energy thatshredded through the air.
“Watch out!” Melany cried out.
However, James grabbed her hand and dodged the Sword Energy with ease. Then, in the nextinstant, he appeared a hundred meters away, put Melany down, and charged toward the man whoambushed them.
His speed was so extraordinary that no one could see his movements. In the blink of an eye, theman was struck and sent flying before collapsing heavily to the ground.
James walked over to him and said, “Your token, please.”
The man was frustrated. However, faced with James, he was powerless. So, he obeyed hiscommand. Upon seeing this, his comrades ditched him behind and hurriedly fled.
James did not give chase. With the token in hand, he walked toward Melany.
She looked at him in surprise. “Y-Your injuries…”

James nodded and said, “They are almost recovered. Speaking of which, I owe you my thanks. Myinjuries wouldn’t have recovered this quickly if not for your care.”
“Why are you here at the Welkin Academy’s examination?”
Melany asked.
