Chapter 2144

Contrary to Cloyd’s assumptions, James was not a simpleton.

Although he was displeased, he did not let it show on his face. He looked at James with a smile andsaid, “Young man, do you understand what you’re saying? Have you any clue what kind oforganization the Dark Keep is? Even I, myself, am not confident I can save Laelia’s family fromthem. Are you implying you have the strength to rescue them?”

“You don’t have to worry about that.”

James’ expression remained calm.

Although James had only just met Cloyd, he learned from Laelia’s description of him that he wouldprotect anyone seeking shelter in Liberty City, even if they had committed heinous crimes.

Someone who would do something like this was definitely not a good person.

Cloyd smiled faintly and said, “Haha... I heard that the Dark Keep’s Deputy Master was killed whiletrying to assassinate Laelia. Does this perhaps have something to do with you, young man?”

James glanced at him and said coolly, “I wasn’t expecting you to be so well-informed.”

He did not deny it and said, “That’s right. I was the one who killed the Dark Keep’s Deputy Master,Saturio.”

Cloyd asked the question rather offhandedly. Thus, he was shocked when James confirmed hisstatement. He could not help but stare at James in bewilderment.

Saturio already reached the Immortal Ascension rank. Even Cloyd, himself, would find it hard to killhim. He did not expect Saturio to die at the hands of the young man before him.

‘Is this young man really that strong?’

Cloyd tried to analyze James’ strength.

However, James’ True Energy was hidden in a small energy reservoir within his meridian. Thus,Cloyd could not sense any energy nor infer James’ true strength.

After a brief shock, he smiled and said, “Indeed, many talented people in the younger generationexist. I never expected such a powerful human to appear on Earth since my absence.

“Serve our guests some tea.”

Soon, a maid came into the room with tea.

Laelia picked up the teacup, took a sip, and said, “Lord Cloyd, please tell us about the Dark Keep.”

“What’s the rush?”

Cloyd smiled and watched as James sipped the tea.

As soon as he drank it, James sensed that something was wrong. The tea was highly poisonous.

Fortunately, it was ineffective on him because his body was reformed by the Demonic Lotus andbecame immune to poison.

“Argh.”

At that moment, Laelia groaned and collapsed to the floor.

James also fell limply to the floor. He pointed at Cloyd and said, “Y-You poisoned the tea.”

“Haha.”

Cloyd laughed and said, “Wasn’t expecting it, were you?”

Suddenly, footsteps approached, and an old man appeared.

It was the Dark Keep’s Master.

“Bastard, you killed my Deputy Master. I want you to pay with your life.”

The Dark Keep’s Master approached and looked at James with a hostile and bloodthirstyexpression.

“Lord Cloyd, you…”

Laelia was stunned.

At that moment, her face was warped in agony as the poison had already spread through her body, making it impossible for her to mobilize her True Energy.

She nearly passed out from the pain alone.

Suddenly, James slowly stood up from the floor. He casually waved his hand, and powerful TrueEnergy gathered in his palm, sucking out the poison from Laelia’s body.

Laelia finally felt much better. She struggled to get up from the floor and quickly ran to stand behindJames.

Cloyd looked at James, and a smile crept on his face. He said, “Impressive, young man. Iunderestimated you. I didn’t think the poison I carefully prepared would have no effect on you.”

James smiled lightly. “I also wasn’t expecting you to be in cahoots with the Dark Keep. I wasplanning to look for the Dark Keep’s Master, but it looks like I won’t have to go through that effortsince he’s already here.”

James wore a nonchalant expression.

The Dark Keep’s Master sneered. “B*stard, you’re still trying to act tough even though you’ll diesoon, huh?”novelbin
