Thea froze momentarily and asked, “Maxine?”
“Yeah.” Cynthia nodded.
Thea asked, “What happened to her?” She had not seen Maxine recently.
Cynthia said, “She disappeared without a trace about two or three years ago. I have no idea whereshe went.”
“Huh?” Thea asked, puzzled, “What do you mean?”
Cynthia narrated the chain of events that unfolded.
Hearing this, Thea furrowed her eyebrows and asked, “Are you saying that she made her way overto Mount Bane to confirm for herself whether James is still alive? However, before meeting James,she disappeared while she was on her way to Mount Bane.”
“Mhm.” Cynthia nodded and said, “I’ve asked James about this, but he told me that he hasn’t seenMaxine either. This could only mean that she wasn’t here at Mount Bane.”
Thea said, “I don’t know much either. After all, I’ve been in closed-door meditation, and I seldomwalked around outside. I have no idea about Maxine’s whereabouts. Let’s search for her after thebattle is over.”
