Chapter 1109

After hanging up the phone, James helped Delilah up and said, “Let’s go.”

“Mhm.” Delilah nodded and left the bar alongside James.

Meanwhile, Maxine followed close behind.

After leaving the bar, James pulled his phone out and called Madelyn.

“I’m sorry, the number you have dialed is not available.”

James frowned. “Huh, weird…”

Maxine said, “The dynamics in the Capital are complex. All families and forces have informants

everywhere. It’s only natural for her to be extra cautious. After all, she’ll be dead if she’s discovered.

Let’s return for now and wait for another opportunity to show itself.”

James did not think much about it.

Looking at Delilah, he asked, “Have you eaten?”

Delilah shook her head.

James brought her to a nearby restaurant and requested a private room.

In the private room, James asked, “What happened? How did you end up singing at a bar?”

Delilah was still wearing James’ jacket. Taking a sip of a glass of warm water, she said, “My family went

bankrupt. My stepfather disappeared without a trace, leaving my mother with a pile of debt. Though

we’ve pawned everything in the house, not to mention that I’ve used up all of my savings to repay the

debts, we still owe a great amount of debt. Since I’ve been canceled, I have no choice but to sing in a

bar.”

James asked, “How much do you owe?”

“Around a few hundred million.” Delilah was not too sure herself.

After all, these were debts owed by his stepfather.

“That much?” James frowned and asked, “What does your stepfather do for a living?”

Delilah said, “He runs a tech business, so he should be a pretty rich guy with assets totaling a few

billion dollars. I heard from my mom that he antagonized some big shots. That’s why his company went

bankrupt and he disappeared without a trace.”

“What’s the name of the company? I’ll investigate the matter.”

“Blue Tech Corporation.”

James pulled out his phone and called a number. “Investigate the reason Blue Tech Corporation went

bankrupt and find out the whereabouts of its owner.”

“Thank you, Dragon General.” Delilah was thankful.

“Don’t mention it. You’re General Kimberly’s daughter. It’s my responsibility to take care of you now that

he’s no longer here with us. I told you to give me a call if you have any difficulties. By the way, what do

you mean by being canceled?”

Delilah sighed. “Since my stepfather owed a huge amount of debt, the debt collectors came knocking

on the door of the entertainment company I was in. These people seem to be rather powerful, so the

company fired me.”

“I’ll deal with it.” James gave his assurance.

He never expected such an unjust thing to happen in the Capital. He silently vowed to thoroughly

investigate the matter.

Soon, the dishes arrived. After eating dinner, they left the restaurant.

Outside the restaurant, James asked, “Where are you currently staying?”

Delilah said, “Since we’ve auctioned off our house, my mom and I currently rent a house in the

suburbs.”

“Let me escort you back.”

Delilah hurriedly shook her head. “Th-There’s no need for that. I can return myself. Thank you for your

help. Once I’ve washed the jacket you lent me, I’ll return it to the Emperor’s Mansion.”

Then, she turned to leave.

James remained silent.

Maxine by his side asked, “Are we going back now?”

“You should return first. I’ll head over to the military region for a while,” James said.

“Mhm… Alright, be careful then.”

Maxine said. Then, she left.

James, on the other hand, headed over to the military region. Along the way, he called Blake.

A few days ago, he had instructed Blake to investigate the generals of the military region. A few days

passed, yet there were still no results.

Soon, the call went through.novelbin

James asked, “How’s the investigation going?”

“James, are you referring to the location of the laboratories or the generals of the Red Flame Army?”

“Both.”

“I have yet to obtain any reliable information regarding the location of the laboratories. Right now, I’m

still investigating the Red Flame Army’s generals. They’ve recently removed all traces of what they did

in the past, so progress has been slow.”
