Chapter 2

Chapter 2All of a sudden, Emma began to question the reason why she had remained so determined throughoutthe past three years. “I got it.” She turned to leave the bathroom thereafter. Though her back figureseemed rather pitiful, there was also a hint of firmness as she strode off. Trevor instinctively took a stepforward, but his gaze quickly darkened as he recalled all of the tricks that she had used on him. … Theparty was still ongoing, but Emma was no longer in the mood for it. She fixed her makeup a little beforetelling the old man that she was heading home and that she had asked the driver to send her back. AmI giving up right now? she wondered as she hopped into the car. She still felt rather dazed after whathad happened. Crystal is pregnant and Trevor would never allow his biological offspring to become anillegitimate child. So, that means he’ll get a divorce with me eventually. I guess that’s the end of it all.We started off nice and happy, and we ended in a somewhat decent manner that does justice to ourmarriage. She showered and went to bed after getting home. As she was half asleep, she could feelsomeone biting her lips firmly. The man’s actions were with the intention of both seduction and punishment. His familiar scent toldEmma that it was Trevor in bed with her. Is he back? Perhaps Crystal doesn’t have time for him today.Well, that would make sense. She’s newly pregnant, right? She shoved the man off of her beforeturning the nightlights on. Then, she fixed her messy pajamas while landing her bare feet on the groundand standing up from the bed. Trevor was sitting on the edge of the bed with only half his faceilluminated by the nightlight. “Let’s get a divorce, Trevor,” she uttered in a dry tone. “Are you donefooling around?” Trevor’s face was filled with annoyance and displeasure. He had been on a trip for thepast few days, so he was desperate for his bodily needs to be met. Emma’s body had instinctivelyresponded to his touch earlier and he was already in too deep for him to hold himself back from makinglove. Therefore, he felt like he was in agony the moment she pushed him away; her rejection felt like somesort of tactic to him. Emma took a deep breath to contain the ache she felt in her heart before sherepeated her words once more. “I’m being serious. Let’s get a divorce.” His expression darkened uponthe mention of this. He straightened his posture and narrowed his eyes while he looked at the woman

and questioned her. “Are you sure?” She pressed her lips without saying much; her silence seemed toconvey her message without the use of language. He curled his lips into a scornful smile beforesnarking at her, “Allow me to remind you of your father and your useless brother’s company. Theirbusiness hasn’t seen any return at all and they would’ve already been bankrupt if it wasn’t for theBatesons’ support all this while.” Emma’s figure wavered as she felt blood rushing to her face. She wasashamed by what he had just said as it was, in fact, true. She would not have been sent to Trevor’sbed if it was not for her father and brother’s terrible company. In the past three years, she had alwaysattempted to explain this matter to Trevor, but he did not believe a word from her mouth as he wasconfident that she was guilty of her tricks. “Forget it. I’ve sold myself to you for three years, which haskept them afloat for all those critical years. I’ve done more than enough for them.”“Are you saying that these three years meant nothing to you? That it was all just a businesstransaction?” A raging storm gathered behind Trevor’s eyes. “What else would it be?” Emma looked athim teary-eyed. “You have someone else you like; we’re not emotionally connected in any way, heck, the only connection we have is a sexual and physical one! Don’t you feel like I’m just an item youbought three years ago?” “Great! Perfect!” Trevor gritted his teeth while speaking in a chilly tone. “Whatabout you, Emma? Are you willing to give up on this luxurious life? I’ve given you everything aside fromlove,” he voiced. The sneering and scornful tone he used earlier had triggered Emma to appear harsher and stubbornthan ever. So, she held her chin high as her gorgeous facial features stood out. “Thank you for thereminder. I am very well capable and healthy, so I’m sure I won’t starve to death even if that means thatI’ll have to wash toilets!” She knew that Christopher Bateson was the only one in the family whogenuinely liked her.novelbin
