Chapter 342

Eve had never met Edwin before, and she had him pegged all wrong. Watching him, she mistookhis composure for timidity, thinking he was all bark and no bite.

Her voice rose in a harsh crescendo, “That Clara, she’s just like her mother — no good at anythingexcept luring men into her web. Isn’t Ian enough for her? And now she’s got her hooks into a newguy, too. Are all you men blind? Can’t you see what kind of woman she is?”

No sooner had the words left her mouth than the man who had just been all smiles and politenesskicked out suddenly, landing a blow on Jay, who was standing nearby.

Jay stumbled back, caught completely off-guard by the sudden attack. Before he could recover, another kick landed on his shin. A crisp snap echoed in everyone’s ears, followed by Jay’s howls ofagony.

“Grandma, cut it out! That’s Edwin, the cunning and current head of the Campbell family,” Jayblurted out.

Eve froze in fear. Staring at her grandson writhing on the ground, she turned to Edwin with wideeyes. “How can you hit someone just like that?”

Edwin’s gentle face broke into a slight smile. “If you keep insulting her, you can say goodbye to hisother leg as well.”

Eve could see that this man truly lived up to his reputation — benevolent on the surface, butruthless and venomous underneath. She was so terrified that she immediately stopped talking andrushed to Jay’s side, looking at him with heartache.

Edwin watched her coldly. “If you stir trouble for Clara again, I’ll make sure your family pays dearly!”Then, he stood up and walked towards the hospital room.

Eve hurriedly helped Jay leave the scene.

Clara had been standing at the door the whole time, witnessing the scene unfold. Her heart wentcold towards the Bell family.

Her father had toiled for the Bell family for decades, leaving them most of his assets when he struckout on his own. Now, as he lay unconscious in a hospital bed, his own mother was more concernedwith his wealth than his health.

Clara clenched her fists tightly by her sides.

Just then, a young nurse emerged from the room and noticed the bloodstains at Clara’s feet. “Ohmy gosh, Ms. Clara, are you hurt?” she exclaimed in surprise.

Only then did Clara realize what had happened. She looked down to see the blood on her ankle andfelt a sharp pang in her heart. But she knew she had to keep her composure.

With a forced calmness, she said, “It’s just that time of the month. I forgot.” Then, she walked slowlyinto the hospital room.

Sasha, witnessing this, was too shocked to speak. She looked to Chase, who quickly gestured forher to be quiet and whispered, “Help Clara sit down. I’ll find an OB-GYN. Don’t panic, okay?”

Sasha nodded vigorously. “Hurry!”

Chase dashed off like a bolt, running right into Edwin.

Edwin asked with concern, “What’s wrong with Clara? Where is she hurt?”

Without a word, Chase hurried towards the elevator. Edwin glanced at Clara’s pale face and then atSasha’s anxious demeanor. Suddenly, it clicked. He approached Clara and said softly, “Clara,

you’re pregnant.”novelbin

He didn’t ask. It was a statement. If it had been a simple period, Chase wouldn’t have rushed off soquickly, nor would Sasha have been so anxious.

Trying to remain composed, Clara knew from a past miscarriage experience that the amount ofbleeding meant the baby was likely still safe. She clenched her fists so tight that her knucklesturned white. Her teeth involuntarily bit her lip in an effort to stifle the fear and pain.
