Chapter 301

Sophia’s performance was impeccable today. The Third and Fourth Constance Families usually didn'tinteract much with the Main Constance Family, yet now they were now looking at Sophia with raresmiles.

Upon receiving the second piece of cake, Sophia passed it to Isabelle.

Her explanation was that Isabelle was a guest who should be served first.

With an innocent smile on her face, Sophia put the plate of cake in Isabelle's hands and added, “If youare free, come here often to accompany Mother. She likes you."

These words were equivalent to a slap across Mrs. Constance's face, which sounded unpleasant toIsabelle at the same time.

Looking at Sophia acting all innocent, John almost wanted to give her a standing ovation.

Had he not known of her stellar acting skills, he would have believed that Sophia had no idea of therelationship between him and Isabelle.

Although Isabelle looked a little pale, she still smiled and thanked Sophia.

The remaining plates of cake were then passed out in order.

The atmosphere in the dining hall was unusually joyous.

At first, everyone just wanted to go through the motions of a birthday celebration, but now every single

one of them was immersed in the joy of eating their cake.

While enjoying her cake, Old Mrs. Constance casually mentioned the company's affairs.

Naturally, she also talked about the collaboration with the Bailey Family.

It was clear that Old Mrs. Constance considered the Bailey Family as a partner of the company andrefused to mention their past friendship.

Aware of her intention, Isabelle didn't utter a word unless she was spoken to.

It finally dawned on her that her presence here only brought shame upon herself.

After chatting at the dining table for a while and waiting for everyone to finish eating, Old Mrs.Constance stood up and said, “Carry on, everyone. I woke up a bit too early today, so I want to goupstairs and rest now. But please don’t mind me and carry on.”

After saying this, she glanced at Sophia. "Sophia dear, do come and lend me a hand.”

"Oh, sure!" Sophia's voice was crisp without any hesitation.

She even turned her head and playfully said to John, “I’m going upstairs with Grandma. Don't come up!We girls don't want you to overhear our conversation.”

“Do I still count as a girl?” Old Mrs. Constance laughed.

Sophia then grinned happily while pleasing her, “Yes, to me you are!”

As someone good at using her honeyed words, nobody would be put off by what she said.

After that, Sophia helped Old Mrs. Constance upstairs and entered the latter’s room.

Upon closing the door after her, Sophia looked at Old Mrs. Constance, the playful look on her facevanishing in an instant. “Grandma, do you have something to say to me?”

Old Mrs. Constance walked over to sit on the bed. Drawing a deep breath, she nodded. “Thank you forwhat you did today.”

There’s nothing to thank me for. After all, I’m paid for my performance with John.

It’s not like I did all that for nothing. novelbin

Old Mrs. Constance looked at Sophia. “You are a good girl. You were really wronged when you wereliving here before.”

Putting on a smile, Sophia sat down in a chair by the bedside. “It’s alright. John gave me a lot of moneyfor the divorce. I suppose it’s worth all my sufferings in the past.”

That miserable life only lasted less than a year. I guess it’s worth it in exchange for living the rest of mylife worry-free.

After thinking for a moment, Old Mrs. Constance opened the drawer under the bedside table and tookout a jewelry box from it. “Here’s a little something for you. You have married into our family for almosta year, yet I haven't given you any gifts. Consider this my compensation for you.”

However, Sophia waved a hand without looking at what it was. “No need. I don’t want it. John hasalready given me a lot in the past. Although I’m poor and my identity is incomparable to yours, I’m notthat greedy. If you’re afraid that I’ll talk nonsense and ruin John's reputation in the future, you can restassured that I’ll do what I promised him.”
