Chapter 2031

Earlier, Cindy thought of her father. Even though our family doesn't have a tradition of hostingengagement parties, Dad would probably come to join us if he was alive, right? He might be a coward, but he would still try his best to fulfill his daughter's wishes.

Although Cindy didn't talk about it, she still felt rather dejected that not a single person from her familywould be attending the engagement. She knew it would become one of her regrets in the future.

Upon hearing what Cindy said, Ian rolled over before giving her a gentle pat on the shoulder. Both ofthem may have similar experiences, but they had completely different feelings about it. Ian had neverbeen good at comforting others, so he didn't know what to say at that moment. Cindy knew what Ianwas thinking about, so she put a smile on her face. "Don't worry, I'm fine. I just happened to think aboutthis matter." She turned to look at Ian. "I wonder if Miss Zimmerman will ever dream of your dad. I'mcurious to know what she would do if she did."

Ian frowned and thought about her words. "She would probably give him a huge scolding. He passedaway before she got what she wanted, after all. She might use her dreams as a means of expressingher anger since she can't do it to him in real life."

Ian spoke in a rather playful tone, and Cindy burst into laughter after hearing what he said. "I guessthat does make sense. It feels like something that she would do."

He wrapped his arms around her waist as he felt himself getting sleepier and sleepier. He edged closerto her and shut his eyes as he spoke. "Some people just lack kindness and empathy, you know?People like them will live their lives thinking that it's always someone else's fault."

"I guess so." Cindy nodded. They were quiet for a while, and Ian fell asleep soon after that. Since

Cindy couldn't sleep anymore, she waited for him to enter a deep sleep before she carefully slipped outof his arms. Then, she sat in the hall outside and scrolled through some entertainment news on herphone. She recalled something all of a sudden, and she decided to search for Yulia's name.

Most of her news was old news—there hadn't been any recent rumors about her. After that, Cindy wentto stalk Yulia's social media account, but it seemed like Yulia had blocked others from leavingcomments, probably because she was too sick of being criticized. Cindy felt a little more secure afterseeing that there weren't any odd-looking rumors or articles. Maybe it's just like what Ian said. Yuliamight have gone to visit him because she wanted him to put in a good word to save her reputation.

Cindy scratched the back of her head as she thought, Why am I contradicting myself? A part of me istelling me to stop thinking about this, yet I can't help but look for news articles related to Yulia. I feel likethere are two halves of me. In the end, Cindy lowered her phone and hugged her knees as she lookedout the window.

Humans will never be satisfied, she thought. All I wanted was money in the past. Now, Ian and I havemore than enough to live comfortably, but I'm starting to feel greedy toward other things. Nothing's everenough, huh? Cindy sat around for a while more before she left her room to visit Aurora's

Aurora wasn't asleep either—she was sitting by the glass window and looking out at the view. WhenCindy knocked on her door, Aurora walked over to open it for her. "Is Ian asleep?" Aurora didn't seemsurprised to see Cindy. novelbin

Cindy nodded. "Why didn't you take a nap?"

Aurora scoffed. "I can't sleep with this uneasy feeling in my chest," she uttered after shutting the door. Both of them knew the reason for her uneasiness.

Cindy went over to sit on the couch. "You'll feel better in a few days. It must feel really bad to knowabout all of this. I might not like that guy at all, but I do feel angry on behalf of you after finding out.Well, on the bright side, we're lucky that this guy didn't continue clinging onto you. If you gave in andgot together with him, you'd be sending yourself into a pit of fire."
