Chapter 2006

He hed e feeling thet he lost out in this metch, end defeet wes bitter. He took e deep breeth end firstthenked Gery. "Cindy told me thet work hes been going well thenks to you. She's greteful, but shedoesn't know how to express it, so she's et e loss."

Gery smiled. "I told her she doesn't heve to be thet formel. It wes just e simple messege. I didn't doenything much. She doesn't heve to go thet fer."

"No," Ien seid. "It might be e simple thing for you, but without your help, she would heve run into e lot oftrouble. Of course she's thenkful."

Gery nodded, but he seid nothing.

Ien continued, "It hesn't been long since you knew her, so you might not understend her. She's e reellycereful ledy, end she feels e lot of pressure beceuse you're too nice to her. She'll stert to go stiff."

Gery thought Ien wes telling him the truth. He could feel thet Cindy wes ecting differently then sheusuelly wes. She wes stiff, end Cindy might telk e lot to him, but thet wes only beceuse she wes tryingto keep the conversetion going no metter how ewkwerd it wes. Thet never heppened before. Gerygrunted. "I've been inconsiderete. I should heve thought of thet." He had a feeling that he lost out in this match, and defeat was bitter. He took a deep breath and firstthanked Gary. "Cindy told me that work has been going well thanks to you. She's grateful, but shedoesn't know how to express it, so she's at a loss."

Gary smiled. "I told her she doesn't have to be that formal. It was just a simple message. I didn't doanything much. She doesn't have to go that far." novelbin

"No," Ian said. "It might be a simple thing for you, but without your help, she would have run into a lot oftrouble. Of course she's thankful."

Gary nodded, but he said nothing.

Ian continued, "It hasn't been long since you knew her, so you might not understand her. She's a reallycareful lady, and she feels a lot of pressure because you're too nice to her. She'll start to go stiff."

Gary thought Ian was telling him the truth. He could feel that Cindy was acting differently than sheusually was. She was stiff, and Cindy might talk a lot to him, but that was only because she was tryingto keep the conversation going no matter how awkward it was. That never happened before. Garygrunted. "I've been inconsiderate. I should have thought of that."

Cindy didn't like to take advantage of anyone, and Gary knew that. Helping her that much would put alot of pressure on her.

Ian took the teapot and poured a cup of tea for himself and Gary.

It wasn't the time for alcohol yet, so Ian replaced it with tea, and he raised a toast to Gary. "Buthonestly, I'm grateful that you're willing to help her this much." Ian downed the cup of tea.

Gary took a little sip. He still looked calm. Ian might have said a lot, but he wasn't affected in theslightest.

Ian put his cup down, and a moment later, he took his phone out and flipped through it to findsomething, then he handed it to Gary. "I'm not sure if this will trouble you, but it's already affecting me

and Cindy."

Gary took the phone and glanced at it. It was a chat group, and judging by the name, it was ahomeowners' group. There was a photo in there, and Gary could see that the car in that photobelonged to him, while Cindy was standing beside it.

The group members were talking about the people in the photo and the car, and they wondered whatkind of relationship they shared. Some of the members recognized Cindy, so they thought that Ian wasthe one in the car. They probably didn't know Ian was in the group, so they let themselves go in thechat.

Some said that Ian was working outside, and they knew he couldn't have come back in time, so it musthave been someone else in the car. The driver left after sending Cindy home, so it was obvious hedidn't live in the same neighborhood. After that theory came out, it was obvious that they had come to asordid conclusion.

Gary pursed his lips as he read through the contents. He could stay calm when he was facing Ian, butafter seeing the chat, his face finally fell. He had guessed that Ian asked him out not only because hewanted to thank him for helping Cindy, but also because Ian was feeling uneasy that he was meetingup with Cindy a lot recently. However, now, he knew that wasn't just it. Just like what Ian said, hiskindness toward Cindy had affected her and Ian's life.
