Chapter 1997

Cindy flipped through it and realized that it was the past work of some designers, and they wereacclaimed as well. There were also articles written by the designers, and the most important aspectswere extracted. Cindy was really excited to see that. "Thanks! My mentor isn't around, and I was tryingto find a direction. I can't believe I didn't think about this. I should have referred to the designers' pastwork."

Mary told her gently, "Tell me if you need anything. Mr. Kaufmann has asked me to help you out."

Cindy wondered if Mr. Kaufmann actually said that, but she thanked Mary anyway. novelbin

Mary scanned everyone before she left, and she wiped her smile off, replacing it with a stern look. Herchange in attitude was too obvious, and everyone could see that she was buttering Cindy up.

After Mary was gone, Cindy picked one of the past works and analyzed them. She chose the award-winning designs of the company's designers first. The compilation was meticulously done, and it evenhad the first draft of every design collected. There was also a breakdown of the details. People wouldpay top dollar to get their hands on this file, and Cindy knew she was extremely lucky to be able to gether hands on this.

A while later, the gossip lady came over again, presumably because she wanted to see the file too, butshe was feeling embarrassed, so she only huddled around Cindy. "Wow, you're really great friends withMr. Kaufmann, huh? He even gave you this? I bet Serena's going to treat you even better now."

Cindy said nothing. She couldn't deny that, but she didn't want to admit it either.

The lady didn't expect her to answer, so she continued, "I envy you. Your backer's powerful. I betnobody's backer is more powerful than yours." She then said, "That Mary came in through herconnection too. She's always arrogant to us, but she keeps buttering you up."

Cindy already guessed that Mary came in through her connection as well, since no normal employeewould be that arrogant otherwise. Only someone with a backer would. Cindy grunted. "I see."

The lady nodded, then she said, "We were actually really surprised at first, since Serena's a womanwith principles. She would never accept an apprentice who came in through connections. All of uscame in because we have the skills to back us up. That's why we were surprised that you got in."

Cindy stopped her work and looked at the lady. I see. No wonder they dislike me. So I'm the only one inthe department who landed the job because of my connection? Well, that's a bit disheartening. So I'mthe most inexperienced one here.

She turned her attention back to the file again. "I see." She spent the whole morning reading throughthe file Mr. Kaufmann compiled for her, and it was way better than her exploring by herself. At the veryleast, she could see what she lacked in the details department. Indeed, she had a few habits likeoverwhelming dresses with a lot of elements, and the lines seemed to be rigid when she designedshirts.

Yeah, I'm inexperienced. I should study more. That's how I can learn. I have to expand my vista toenrich my designs. Cindy hadn't finished going through the file even though it was already time forlunch. Her colleagues were leaving, but they would linger around her desk and glance at the file.
