Chapter 1981

Cindy knew Ian would feel upset if she told her that Gary was having lunch with her, but she wanted tobe honest. She was worried he might get angry if he knew about it somehow. Cindy might be asentimental woman, but she could be rational when it came to her boundaries. She knew there mustn'tbe any secrets between a couple, or the relationship might end up ruined just because of one little lie.

Ian was quiet. Obviously, he was bothered.

Cindy couldn't do anything about that, so she explained, "Don't worry. He just thinks of me as a friend, that's all. I don't think he would even like me. He has a lot of great women for him to choose from."

Ian pursed his lips. He didn't seem happy, but he said gently, "And how do you know he won't like you? Some men's taste is different from the others."

Cindy retorted, "So you're saying that your taste is different, huh? You actually think I'm not that good, right?"

Ian froze for a moment, then he raised his voice, "Don't change the topic. I'm talking about you. Don'tmake this about me."

Cindy felt like laughing. He must be getting angry because he can't explain himself. She arched hereyebrow and said nothing, but the look on her face told a thousand words.

Ian looked tense. A moment later, he eased up and smiled. "Well, if we go by Yulia's definition, then Iprobably do have a different taste."

She knew he brought Yulia up on purpose. The moment I said Gary's around, he brought her up. Mencan be childish at times. She snorted. "Do you want to fight?"

Ian was quiet for a moment. "I'll try to finish up work early tonight and come home. Just wait. We'regoing to have a tussle. I have to vent my annoyance somehow."

Cindy had been getting better at catching the sexual innuendos. When Ian said 'tussle' and 'vent', shethought about something else entirely.

Ian looked away after that. Someone seemed to be calling him.

Cindy said, "You can go if you have to. I should be having my lunch too."

Ian nodded, but he told her, "Stay away from him. I don't care what he thinks about you, just steer clearof him, or I'm not letting you off the hook."

Cindy chuckled. "Yeah, yeah, yeah. Let's see how you won't let me off the hook." Then they hung up.She heaved a sigh, but when she thought about the sexual innuendos in the earlier conversation, sheblushed. She couldn't go back like this, so she calmed down before she went in.

The food had arrived, but Gary didn't touch it. He was waiting for her.

Cindy apologized again. "It was Ian, so I got carried away. Sorry."

Gary was smiling. "Honestly, I envy you couples who are so sweet together."

Cindy said, "That's how relationships go. Every couple sticks together almost every day in this phase.

Sometimes I think it's really mushy."

Gary pursed his lips. A moment of silence later, he said, "Well, if that's the case, then maybe myrelationship was a fake one." novelbin

Cindy smiled. "Why? You guys didn't do everything together?"

Gary shook his head. "I didn't have that much time. My business was in its early phase, and I barelyhad time for myself."
