Chapter 1938

I don’t think Cindy and I went overboard with our display of affection in front of Mom, Ian thought. Wedo most of those actions when it’s just the two of us, so I don’t think Mom saw anything. She’s probablyjust reminding us as someone who has been through all of this, he figured. novelbin

Cindy seemed a little more awake upon hearing Ian’s words, and she turned around to wrap her armsaround Ian. “Will your mom think that I don’t respect myself?” Cindy asked in a rather worried tone.

“How could that be possible?” Ian laughed and pulled her close to him. “You know how much my momlikes you. She doesn’t think too much about these matters—she’d probably just think that I’m desperatefor you.”

Cindy sighed. There was nothing else she could say, so she decided to direct her complaints towardIan. “It’s all your fault.”

He pressed his chin against her forehead. “I recall you are really passionate about these things, so whyare you putting all of the blame on me?”

She gave him a soft pinch on his waist. “Nonsense,” she mumbled. She was too exhausted to foolaround with him, and both of them only bickered for a while more before they both shut their eyes tosleep. At first, Cindy had assumed that she would sleep better when she returned to her hometown andslept on the bed she used to sleep on. However, she realized that she was a lot more used to sleepingon her bed in their home.

They slept through lunchtime, and Cindy only woke up because she was feeling hungry. When sheopened her eyes, she found Ian fast asleep beside her. He’s probably tired. He looks like he’s having a

really good sleep. Cindy didn’t want to wake him up, so she carefully slipped out of his arms beforetiptoeing out of the room with her bare feet.

She headed to the bathroom outside for a quick shower before she took the warm dishes out for ameal. While she sat on the couch, she felt for her phone and checked her social media accounts. Shehadn’t managed to see how her friends had reacted to her new Facebook post, so she tapped on theapplication to check it.

There were people who liked and commented on her post, but these were people she knew in the past.None of them asked about Ian, and they only said things like, ‘You should have told us you’re back! Weshould have a meal.’

Although there wasn’t much action on Cindy’s Facebook, she could tell that the news of her and Iangoing to her hometown was starting to spread. It’s a shame I’m not friends with Yulia, or I’d definitelymake sure she sees this post. She has a lot of connections, so I wonder if she heard about me andIan’s trip to my home. If she pays that much attention to Ian, she probably knows that he has beenaway for the past few days.

When Ian walked out of the room, he found Cindy zoning out on the couch. “What is it? What are youthinking about?” He walked over when he saw the puzzling situation.

She immediately snapped back into reality. “It’s nothing. I’m just thinking about my upcoming work.”

The company had texted her to tell her what to prepare and what they were going to do on the first day.She had no experience being a designer’s apprentice, so she didn’t know what to expect. It felt like shewas entering unknown territory once more—it reminded her of how confused she had been when shefirst started working as Ian’s assistant.

“I’ll bring the rest of the dishes out. Go wash your face,” she urged as she got up from the couch. Iannodded and headed to the washroom, returning to the dining table once he was done. Ian had a habitof pulling his phone out to look at it before his meal, but his actions came to an obvious pause themoment he glanced at his screen. Then, he lowered his phone and put it on the table. Cindy noticedwhat he was doing, and she frowned a little. “What is it? Is someone looking for you?”

“It’s nothing important. There’s no need to care about it,” he uttered as he hung his head low andfocused on his food.
