Chapter 1770

Ian knew why he was doing that, and he would have mocked Peter if it was in the past, but he couldn’tbe bothered to even tell him off now.

Peter nodded. “I think you guys are close.”

“Not exactly,” Ian said. “We were fighting when we first met you. Didn’t even talk much. Didn’t yourealize she was giving me the cold shoulder?”

Peter forced a smile. “She’s stubborn, but she’s a nice girl.”

I don’t need you to tell me that. He grunted. “Well, it’s normal for girls to play hard to get, especiallywhen they’re in front of the guy they like. I understand that, so I’ve been trying to make her feel special.I think it’s really fun.”

Peter pursed her lips. He felt hurt just from hearing that. Even though Ian wasn’t showing any publicaffection with Cindy, it still hurt Peter’s feelings. He nodded. “I see. I’ll be going now. I don’t haveanything to do here.”

“See ya around.” Ian sat back down and saw Peter off.

Meanwhile, Cindy and Aurora hailed a ride and headed toward the Morgan Residence.

Aurora said she dreamed of Leah the night before, and she was feeling restless the whole day, so sheinsisted on coming over to take a look.

Cindy objected to it at first. After all, there was nothing to gain from seeing Leah when she was in thiscondition. However, Aurora kept convincing her since that morning, and Cindy had always been a softieat heart, so she came with Aurora in the end.

They stood on the street across from the residence and looked at each other, clueless about what theyshould do next.

The residence’s door was closed, and it looked like it was locked. Even if it wasn’t, they couldn’t just goin whenever they wanted.

Cindy stared at it for a while. “I think someone must be standing guard inside. They should come out ifwe knock.”

Leah was locked in the basement after all. A servant or guard must be around, since they couldn’tleave Leah unattended.

Cindy had her own worries as well. Aurora was a public figure after all, so if someone took pictures ofher at the residence, they might come up with another made-up scandal. She didn’t want any of themto drag Ian down, not after he had finally made his return. After some deliberation, they went to a cafénearby to talk about their next move.

Cindy negotiated, “Why don’t I go and ask how she’s doing? I don’t think anyone will notice me, so I’llbe asking around.” She did appear in the news previously and there were even photos of her, but inreality, nobody paid attention to her in the whole case. Everyone only cared about the Morgans, andshe had nothing to offer in the case, so it’d be better if she went to ask instead of Aurora.

Aurora turned to look out the window and tried to get a better view of the residence, but the café wasn’t

really standing too near the residence, so she could see nothing from this distance. She hesitated for amoment before saying, “It’s still worrying even if you’re the one who’s going. Actually, I’m not seeingLeah just so I can laugh at her. I just want to know how she treated Ian in my absence.”

Aurora never cared about her son for a lot of years. She kept telling herself that Ian should be livingfine, since he had Bryce to care for him. However, she realized how naive that line of thinking was now.Leah was harsh to him, and Bryce wouldn’t be too far off. She shouldn’t have expected a man likeBryce to be an actual dad to her son.novelbin
