If it weren't for Anne, | typically would not prepare dinner. | looked at the food that was still being prepared in the kitchen andreplied, "No, | haven't." "Let's eat out tonight. | froze, feeling a little apprehensive as | had not been out for quite some time. "Wouldn't | garner a lot of unwanted attention if |go out now?" | asked. After all, it hadn't been that long since the havoc ended.

"Don't worry. I've booked us a private dining room," he reassured. After a brief pause, he said, "By the way, Josiah has justreturned from Hanlusia City. He'd like to see Anne."

| scowled. | did not want Anne to have anything todo with him.

Sensing that | abruptly went silent, he could not help but continue in a gentle voice, "If you don't like him seeing Anne, the threeof us can go somewhere else."

"It's fine!" | conceded. As much as | did not want him to see Anne, he was still her father.

Half an hour later, Hendrix parked his car in front of the courtyard. Anne and | got into the rear seats of the car.

He turned around with furrowed brows and asked, "You alright?"

| shook my head and took off my scarf. Though the air conditioner was turned on, it still felt rather warm and stuffy in the car.Anne was chatty, which helped to lighten the mood because | did not say much. | felt a little uneasy.

After arriving at the restaurant, we headed straight to the private dining room. Josiah was waiting there, and fortunately, he camealone.

The moment he saw Anne, he grinned and bombarded her with questions.

Hendrix gripped my hand as | sat down. In a soft and restrained voice, he asked, "Are you in a bad mood?""I'm fine!" | pursed my lips, shook my head lightly.

The waiters came by to serve our food. While Hendrix was talking with Anne, Josiah kept looking at her intently.| remained silent for a while before turning my gaze to Josiah. "Chloe should be delivering soon. You..."

"She had a miscarriage!" Josiah replied coldly with a straight face, gaze still fixated on Anne.

| thought | heard him wrong. "What?"

Finally, he turned his gaze towards me. "There was an embryonic malposition. Even if he was born, he won't live long, so we lostthe baby."
