Chapter 371

Troy wasn't surprised at all listening to my reply. He looked as if he was expecting it. He then said,

"Mrs. Roberts, you don't need to worry about it. Things like these won't happen twice. To assure you of

our sincerity, I've brought Mr. Hammer with me. He was the one who was in charge of the Roberts

Group's audit previously. With him present, you can just hand us the job with ease."

From the look of it, Calvin's position in Alford Audit seemed to be more senior than Troy's.

I glanced at Calvin. He smiled and said, "Director Reid, I can assure you that the same thing won't

happen twice."

I pursed my lips and looked at Hendrix. "Can I reject doing the audit?"novelbin

Hendrix raised his eyebrows and asked, "What's the reason?"

"I neither wish to be involved in this nor do I want to repeat the same mistake." I'm now part of the

Granger Group. For me, it wasn't great that the Roberts Group still handed me the rights to manage

their audit although they might have good intentions.

Hendrix narrowed his eyes. After a brief pause, he looked at Troy and said, "Mr. Lawson, I'm afraid I

have to reject the offer. The incident that happened last time had traumatised my wife. I'll just be frank.

Handing over the same matters to Brilliant Audit did not cause any damage to our company even

though Brilliant Audit is a much smaller company. As for Alford Audit, the last time that happened, our

company was almost bankrupted. So I'm afraid I have to reject your offer and let you know that Roberts

Group won't be handing over their audit to Alford Audit."

Troy and Calvin were shocked to hear that. "Mr. Roberts, you should know better than us that the crisis

that happened last time in Roberts Group was because there was a mole in your company. It had

nothing to do with Alford Audit. Alford Audit was just a spark in the beginning that ignited the problem."

Hendrix raised his eyebrows. A faint smile appeared on his face. "Does that mean that you think the

mistake that Alford Audit made could be forgiven?"

Troy froze and his face turned pale.

This meal was bound to be unpleasant.

Back in the car, Hendrix glanced sideways at me. I could feel his dark, intent gaze on me. "What are

you thinking about?"

I stared out at the passing scenery. I turned to him and said, "You never wanted to continue working

with Alford Audit in the first place, right? Then why invite them for dinner?"

He raised his eyebrows. "Take a guess."

"Hendrix, there's no need for you to do this." I pursed my lips, feeling a little displeased. It was really

childish of him to ask them out for a meal just to make a food out of them.

I was tired and weary. I have lost the energy to continue talking to him about such mindless things.

There wasn't a need to fight with him over such matters. It wasn't worth it.

My flight back home to Jarold City was the day after. I wanted to rest for a day at Ucrebury before

heading home.

I received a surprising phone call from Kelsey." Director Reid, can we meet up?"

Thinking of what Irvin said the other night, I hesitated and asked, "Is there anything I can do for you?"

She said in a choked voice, "Director Reid, I know I deserve everything that's happening to me, but I

really don't want to be imprisoned like this for a lifetime. I beg you, let's meet and talk."

Hendrix was not in the villa and it felt a little empty. After contemplating, I agreed, "Sure, let's meet on

Bridge House at Southrea Road."

Kelsey let out a sigh of relief and agreed.

Hanging up the phone, I changed into an outfit that could keep me warm and headed out. Kelsey was

already there when I arrived.

She was wearing an out of fashion, thick, cotton coat that was wrapping tightly on her body. There were

some faint bruises that were noticeable on her face even though she covered it with make up.
