Chapter 1420

She looked at me and said with her eyes wide, "Madam Reid, are you sending me back? Did I doanything wrong?"

I shook my head and answered, "That's not it. It is because I have yet to get my hands on youridentification papers, so I'm planning to go back and ask your parents for them. Once I acquire thenecessary documents, you will be eligible for the surgery."

Perhaps this child had no idea what I was talking about. She nodded lightly, looking a little puzzled. She gave me a small smile, which reminded me of Wendy.

The next day.

Initially, I planned on driving on my own. But the moment I walked out of the house, I saw thatSheridan was already waiting for me next to my car. Valerie must have arranged this because shewas worried about me going back to Abby's village alone.

Despite his age, Sheridan was a well- groomed man. He looked like a noble. When he saw me, helet out a smile and said, "Your dad wants me to come with you and keep an eye on you."novelbin

I shrugged, "I saw this coming."

I didn't think much about it and took Abby to the car. Seeing that my luggage was packed full withclothes, he frowned and asked, "Are you planning to stay there?"

I shook my head and answered, "No. Every season, Hendrix buys a ton of clothes for me and I don'treally wear them often. Whenever a season is over, Hendrix will ask someone to pack up theunworn clothes and sell them to the second-hand store. Since I'm going to the village, I might aswell donate them to Abby's mother. It's such a waste to just keep them in the closet, taking upspace!"

He started the car and said with a smile, "You are really kind, but I don't think that woman is worthyof your kindness."

I frowned slightly and was a little upset with his words. I uttered, "Do you think since she treated herown daughter cruelly, she is not a kind person?"

He nodded and glanced at Abby. He spoke, "I don't think she is a good mother."

I sighed slightly and said, "Back then, when my grandma and I were still staying in Howell, therewas a family of four living on our street. The father of the family was a really hard-working man.Back then, Howell was a plantation. Every day he would work for countless hours until one day, hewas so exhausted that he fainted. Unfortunately, he fell into a pond. Even though the pond was notvery deep, he still drowned and died in it. After his death, his wife left Howell with their son. She lefta daughter behind, who was almost the same age as me. Back then, I was very puzzled. It wasobvious that a daughter could take better care of the family, so why did she leave her behind? Thedaughter then lived with her grandma. Her grandma was exceptionally harsh with her and shewould often get scolded and beaten. I often saw her hiding under the bridge, crying all by herself. My grandma always asked me to send some food over to her, but she would refuse it regardless."

"One day, she took the initiative to ask me for money. I gave her all I had, which was only twodollars. I initially thought that she would spend the money on something she wanted. Who wouldhave thought that she ended up buying a bottle of pesticide? She brought the pesticide to herfather's grave, chugged the entire bottle and fell asleep on her father's grave. Back then, she toldme that some people were born without a choice. Everyone wanted to show their best side for theworld to see. But some people were born into a harsh life and struggle just to get by, so how wouldthey have the energy to continue pretending that everything was fine?"
