Chapter 1380

I could hear voices coming from inside the room. It was not particularly loud. The conversationrevolved around work matters. About half an hour later, Estella opened the office door and walkedout of the room carrying a stack of documents. She seemed bewildered to see me. Then she saidwith a smile, "Mrs. Roberts, when did you arrive?"

I smiled and said, "Well, I've been here for quite a while now. I did not go in as you guys were busy."

"Mr. Roberts was reviewing documents," she said. "We have a lot on our plate lately. Hence, hemay not have much time for you. When we’re done, he'll be able to spend more time with you."

"Alright," I replied, giving her a small smile.

Hendrix walked out of the room, likely because he heard my voice. He raised his eyebrows andflashed a stifled smile when he saw me. "What did you bring over?"

Holding up the food, I looked at him before directing my gaze at Estella. "I heard that you have beenpreparing sweet snacks for Mr. Roberts lately," I said. "The girls from the marketing department toldme. I love sweet snacks. Do you have them prepared today? Can I have some?"

The smile on her face stiffened for a moment. "I noticed Mr. Roberts didn't eat lunch just now,” shereplied. "So I gave him the snacks. He has a history of stomach problems. I'm worried that he mayhave a stomach ache if he goes without any food for too long. Why don't you come over anotherday, Mrs. Roberts, and I'll prepare some snacks for you as well."

I smiled lightly and nodded. "Thank you so much," I said.

Hendrix did not pay attention to our conversation. He sat down beside me and started unpackingthe food. He frowned slightly when he noticed that Estella was still chatting with me. "Alright, go doyour work," he instructed.

Estella nodded. She quickly left, carrying the stack of documents.

As I looked at her retreating figure, I could not help but think that she was a special girl.

When Hendrix saw me staring at Estella, he furrowed his brows and asked, "What' s the matter?"

I turned around and looked at him. I forgot the fact that he irked me this morning. "Is Evan going tostay in Oakland for a long time?" I asked.

He nodded. "It’s a huge project," he said. "He won't be back anytime soon."

As I looked at him, lowering his head and eating the food, I could not help but ask, "Is it yummy?"novelbin

He paused at the sudden change of the topic and asked, "Why are you concerned about himthough?"

I pursed my lips and looked at him. "Is Estella a good worker?" I asked.

He frowned. He asked, seemingly confused, "It sounds like something is wrong. What' s the matter?Aren't you close with her?"

"What?" I was a little surprised. I wondered what I had done that led Hendrix to come to such aconclusion.

He raised his eyebrows at me. "I guess I've mistaken," he said. "Anyway, Secretary to the Chairmanis not an important post. I'll dismiss her in a few days."

How insouciant could he get? I frowned and said, "You can't just promote someone and then havethem fired for no obvious reasons. The rest of the employees may secretly judge you. Since she's agood worker, just let her stay. She's good as long as she can deliver her work on time."

I guessed I had been overly sensitive.

After a few bites, his phone rang. He had some work matters to attend to, so hethen busied himselfwith work again. Since he was about to get off work soon, I decided to wait in the office so that wecould visit Anne together.

As my mind started to wander, I was taken aback to find a document appearing before me. I raisedmy head and saw Hendrix standing over me. "Can you do me a favor, my dear wife?" he said."Send this document to the finance department."
