Chapter 1267

Her appearance at this moment was vastly different from the first time I saw her. The treatment andchemotherapy made this child look like a thin and bony skeleton. The bones in her small handswere jarringly obvious now. The child was asleep. I looked at her thin face and felt a slight pain inmy heart.

I sat down beside the bed, wondering if I could ask Hendrix to find a good doctor or a hospital totreat Rita. After undergoing repeated chemotherapy like this, her hair was already gone.

Rita woke up at the moment I took out my phone and was about to send Hendrix a message. Whenshe saw me, she was startled. She looked at me and said, 'Auntie."

I nodded and looked at her. Hence, I asked softly, "Did I wake you up?"

She shook her head, looked at me and asked softly, "Did my grandparents go out?"

"Yes," I answered. "Rita, do you want some water? I'll pour some for you," I asked.

She shook her head and said, "I'm not thirsty, Auntie!"

I smiled lightly and held her bony hand. I felt sad for her and asked, "Rita, are you hungry?"

She shook her head. Probably she had just woken up, so she did not want to talk. She looked at theceiling with her eyes. It seemed that this action had been repeated countless times.

I wasn't a chatty person. I didn't know what to say at that point, so I could only stay by her side insilence.

After a while, Rita suddenly asked, "Auntie, am I dying?"

For a moment, my heart felt like it was being squeezed by an invisible hand. It was so painful that Icouldn't breathe. Holding back my tears, I shook my head and replied with a smile, "No, you will becured. The doctor will cure your illness. When you are cured, you can go to the zoo with yourgrandparents to see the animals and go outside to see the blue sky and white clouds."

The little girl looked at me with a sparkle in her eyes. "Really?" she asked.

I tugged her gently and nodded with certainty. "Yes, it's true. Is there anything you've been longingto do? When you get out of the hospital, I will help you to achieve it, alright?" I spoke.

She seemed to have hope. She nodded and said seriously, "I want to eat ice cream and cake. Ihaven't eaten them for a long time. Grandma said that I can only eat after I get better!"

I nodded, "Well, Rita, then you have to persevere with your treatment. After you get better, I willbring you out to eat ice cream and cake, okay?" "Alright!" she replied. All of a sudden, she seemedto remember something. She took out a palmsized notebook from behind the pillow, handed it to meand said, "Auntie, this is what Grandma asked me to give you. It's my mom's diary. Grandma saidthat you are a nice person and wanted me to thank you."

I held the notebook and was stunned for a second. Thus, I nodded and asked, "Your mom's diary?"

She nodded and said, "Yes. I don't know how to read. Grandma said that it could help you, but youhave to keep it safe now and take a look only after you get home. Otherwise, someone will be afteryou."

While speaking, the little girl gestured at me to put the diary in my bag. I did. After chatting with herfor a while, Sonia's parents returned.

They looked at me and said, "Mrs. Roberts, thank you for your help these few days."

I shook my head slightly and said, "You're welcome. You don't have to worry about Rita's medicalfees anymore. If any problems arise, I will find a way to deal with it."novelbin
