Chapter 1235

He leaned close and let out a sigh. "No matter what happens in the future, you have to tell mebefore you go anywhere. It's more painful to worry about a person than you can imagine," he said, looking very much like he had been wronged.

Looking at his sad face, my heart broke a little. I nodded and promised, "I will report to youwherever I go in the future."

Two people being together was like a process of missing and thinking of each other. In this world, having someone who cared about us other than our parents, that's probably what love was.

That was when I noticed what he was doing. I stared at him with my eyes wide open. A littlesurprised, I choked out, "Hendrix, what are you doing?"

He had slowly pushed my nightdress up to my thighs, and his gentle eyes were fixed on mine."You're not going to compensate me?"

Blushing, my eyes widened even more, I shook my head in feeble denial. "No, I can't..."

But of course, what happened between a man and a woman couldn't be denied.

Gerald's funeral was on Saturday.

Over the past few days, I had roughly figured out the dual purpose of Hendrix's visit to Oakland. Itwasn't just to pay Gerald a visit. It was also because of his plan to get involved in Oakland'sbusiness market. Unlike the many industries in the country, Oakland was doing well. Along with thecooperation of the Hayes family, it wouldn't be difficult to make this business venture a success.novelbin

On Saturday morning, Hendrix and I dressed in black to attend Gerald's funeral. By the time wearrived at the Hayes Manor, the courtyard was already filled with people.

Gerald's friends and family had all come to say their goodbyes. The atmosphere was heavy withgrief and sadness.

Tobias stood at the front, greeting everyone who had come to pay their respects. The rest of theHayes family stood in two rows in front of the mourning hall. Hendrix and I went up to pay ourrespects quietly.

Except for what Hendrix briefly told me about them, I didn't know much about the Hayes family.Gerald had four wives. The first wife died of illness over ten years ago. She was a noble lady. If notfor her connections and aid, Gerald wouldn't have been able to develop the family to such heights.

The noble lady gave Gerald two daughters. One of them married well while the other ran asuccessful business overseas. Using the Hayes family's background, she had gained quite a lot offame outside the country. Despite their achievements, Gerald had always wanted a son.

With their current standing in society, Gerald's daughters were no longer considered attached to theHayes family.

Gerald's second wife was a popular star from the 1990s. Because of her lowly birth, she was lookeddown upon by the other elders in the Hayes family. Fortunately, she managed to give birth to a sonand a daughter. Thus the Hayes family finally had a son. Sadly, a few years ago, the eldest son losthis legs in a car accident and became a paraplegic.

The feud within influential families was a headache, to say the least.

As for Gerald's third wife, it was said that she was a reporter when she was young. By the time shemarried him, Gerald was already over fifty years old. They had a huge age gap between them. Notmany people believed there was love between the couple. They would rather believe that onegained money while the other gained beauty. The relationship between the old husband and youngwife was ambiguous.

The reporter surprisingly had two sons and one daughter. The two sons were as old as Tobias. However, due to their terrible behavior and reputation in the industry. MAster Hayes sent themoverseas. To make his two sons learn to behave well, Master Hayes tried everything. However, hisefforts were in vain. Therefore, in the end, he entrusted the authority of the Hayes family to hisfourth wife's son, Tobias.
