Chapter 1154

He lifted an eyebrow. "My hand hurts."

That was all he bothered saying. I decided to just follow along despite my doubts.

Andrea stood there, her delicate face a little pale.

After being busy with the Lancille Village project for a few days, I was glad to finally have some daysto rest.

With Thanksgiving approaching, I was thinking about asking for leave from Sebastian to go back tothe capital.

The past few days, Anne had been calling me saying that she missed me. And in truth, this mothermissed her child too.

Saturday afternoon, Hendrix had an appointment with Sebastian to talk about the upcoming eventsrelating to the Lancille Village project. With some time on my hand, I planned to pack up in the villaand then go back.

However, I didn't expect Andrea to call. "Arianna, do you have time?"

I knew that she had nothing good to say to me, so I refused immediately. "No, I'm sorry, MissBurton.

Just tell me what you want to talk to me about on the phone."

She simpered. "It's not a big deal. I just heard that you froze to death some time ago, so I wanted tocomfort you."

I frowned at the phone. How did she know about this?

"Thank you for your concern, Miss Burton," I said.

"Hmm," she continued, "it's so unfortunate that you don't have time. I wanted to talk to you aboutwhat happened that day. Since you are busy, let's forget I said anything."

I blinked. Hendrix had been investigating the matter since it happened. I haven't kept up and hadalmost forgotten about it. Why would she suddenly call me about it. Was it possible that she hadsomething to do with it?

"Andrea, speak plainly." I was running out of patience.

"Nothing. I just didn't want Hendrix to tire himself out for you, so I secretly found someone toinvestigate. I accidentally found something. But since you are not interested, then forget it."

"Send me the location!" I got up and went to the bedroom to put on a coat.

She acknowledged me indifferently then hung up the phone.

It was not difficult to find the cafe. She was there when I arrived and had already ordered a cup ofcoffee. She made quite a picture, sitting there, enjoying the scenery outside the window.novelbin

She knew that I had arrived but didn't look at me. My only acknowledgment was a slight squint inher eyes. Then she gracefully took a sip of coffee and raised her eyebrows at me. "This coffee stilltastes good when it's bitter. With sugar, the taste will change."

I gritted my teeth at the dig. I didn't like bitter things, food or in life.

I ordered a glass of juice. When she remained silent, I said impatiently, "Miss Burton, are we justhere to drink coffee?"

Her mouth curved into a smile. "Of course not!"

After she finished half her coffee, she looked up at me, and her eyes paused on my neck. Shepursed her lips then smiled, "Hendrix bought two of them at the same time that day. I've beenthinking about who he gave the other one to, but I didn't expect it to be you!"

I fought the urge to grimace but my hand rose up to touch the necklace around my neck. It wasHendrix's gift to me that night when we were having dinner.

I didn't reply. At the back of my mind, I had an inkling about what she was going to say next. Therewas no need for me to make things difficult for myself.

She saw me not saying anything and her smile grew wider. She mocked, "You're not curious aboutwhy I know about the necklace?"

"I'm not interested!" I said and took a small sip of fruit juice. I frowned at the odd taste of sweetness. It didn't taste like freshly squeezed juice.
