Chapter 1117
Hendrix took over the phone and guessed that I was crying. He reassured me in a soothing and softvoice, "She's doing fine here. All is good. Ian and the others are taking good care of her."
I nodded, choking with sobs, "Thank you, Hendrix!"
From the other end came his helpless laughter. He said, "You and I are together, and Anne is mydaughter. You don't have to say thank you."
I couldn't help but laugh. I took a deep breath and said, "When all the projects are done, I'll go backand live a happy life with you and Anne!"
He answered with a low and magnetic voice, "I'll wait for you!"
I smiled and recalled what had happened at the base. I paused for a while, "Hendrix, after themachines were stolen from the base, did you get any leads?"
My sudden change in subject got him thinking for a moment. He then replied, "There's no usefulinformation for now. What's the matter? What did you find out?"
I nodded, "It's about the walls in the base. There was no echo when the normal brick wall wasknocked on and that only happened with the partition walls. However, the walls at the back of thebase are soundproof. I looked carefully today. The wall is at least one meter wide. How can anormal wall be so thick?"
He was silent for a while before he replied, "You don't have to worry about it. Let Evan take care ofit. You can just continue to lead the project. The Roberts Group will finish up as soon as possibleand they will try to hold a press conference as soon as they can."
I knew that he was worried about my safety, so I didn't say much. There was a knock on the door,probably from Naomi.
After I hung up on the call, I got up to open the door. Naomi was holding a lot of things as she said,"I knew you were in the hotel. I just went to that street to get some good snacks. I'm sure you willlike them!"
I looked down and saw that she was carrying a lot of food in her hands. I reached out to take themand said with a smile, "You went there alone?"
She nodded, put away the things in her hand, and glanced at me. Probably sensing that somethingwas wrong, she looked at me again and frowned, "Did you cry just now?"
I was stunned and said with a slight smile, "I made a phone call home. I kind of miss my
daughter."
She hesitated for a second, then looked at me dramatically and said, "You and Hendrix alreadyhave a daughter?"
I nodded and said with a faint smile, "She is five years old!"
She swore, "What the f*ck? You two already have a daughter, and yet you and Hendrix werebehaving like that before. Were you two out of your mind?"
I chuckled. It was a long story and I had no idea what to say. I changed the subject and looked atthe snacks. I couldn't help but say, "I am surprised that they have seafood noodles here. I've beencraving them for a long time."
She had bought about a dozen servings of different dishes. Looking at me, she said, "Mygrandfather didn't allow me to eat these before, so I really craved these things. These days, I'vefinally gotten the chance to go out, so I bought all the food that I wanted. Take them out and letthem cool for a bit. I'll get Sebastian to come and eat with us. We can't finish all of this, and I don'twant to waste food."
I was surprised and raised my eyebrows at her words, "Will Sebastian eat all these?"
She shrugged, replying, "Even if he doesn't like the food, he has to eat it. I've brought them all theway

I pressed my lips together and said nothing else. Some things between couples just failed to makesense to other people.
She turned around and walked out of the room. I took out all the snacks from her bag. There wereabout a dozen of them, all from that particular street.
The smell was fragrant, and the food was still steaming. Naomi came back after a short while.
