Chapter 1040

I tuggged on Naomi's arm, nodded, and tried to get up. But Hendrix held me back, and before Icould protest, picked me up bridal style. All of us were drenched. Luckily the weather in August wasnot so cold.

Being hugged like this, I was enveloped in his warmth. This close, I could even feel the rhythm ofhis heartbeat.

I couldn't help but blush, feeling little awkward.

Finally, we reached the tent. Worried that my clothes would be too wet and I might fall ill, Naomihanded me the clothes she brought and quickly ushered me into the tent.

The tent small but she managed to squeeze her way in, worried that I wouldn't be able to changedue to my injuries.

It felt quite awkward, so I tried to shoo her out. I coughed and said, "You don't have to look after melike this. I'm fine. I'm really, perfectly fine!"

She nodded, but she still looked at me with concern. She finally said, "Fortunately, the mountainsand forests are quiet, so we heard Rainie's cry for help. Otherwise, your situation would be dire."

My hand froze as I was changing out of my wet clothes. I looked up and said, "I thought you werelooking for me because Dahlia sought your help?"

She shook her head, frowning "Not long after we separated from your team, we went around themountain but couldn't find Hendrix. So we returned to the camp. It wasn't until later that Hendrix andRowane came back. Rowane had sprained her ankle and so their journey was slow. That womanreally is a troublemaker."

I was shocked. "Did Dahlia come back?"

She frowned slightly. "I've almost forgotten about her if you hadn't mentioned her. We haven't seenher since your accident!"

"After Hendrix and Rowane came back, we waited for you for a long time. When you didn't comeback and it started to rain, we were afraid that something might happened, so we set off to find you.Fortunately, we heard Rainie's cry for help. That's how we knew you had fallen into a large hole."

I pressed my lips together, unble to speak.

After a moment of silence, Naomi realized something was wrong so she looked at me carefully andasked, "Did you ask Dahlia to seek help after the accident?"novelbin

I nodded. "Yes!"

She pursed her lips and frowned. "F*ck, this woman is really disgusting. Her mouth is full of MercifulBuddha but her actions are full of viciousness!"

I didn't say anything and silently finished changing into my clothes. I felt very weak, like all myenergy had been sucked out of my body. I was so drained and tired.

I was not alone. Everyone decided to rest in their tents for the night.

After going through such an ordeal of life and death, everyone was extremely exhausted. Naomisaid that she would accompany me in the tent, but int he end she was soon dragged away bySebastian.

I was too exhausted to even ask about how other campers fared. I laid back and fell asleep.

The rain fell harder as the night wore on and I was suddenly awakened by the loud, roaring soundof thunder.

When I turned over, I was startled by the person lying beside me.

But before more than a squeak could escape my mouth, my hand was grabbed onto by thismysterious person. His deep voice said, "It's me. Don't be afraid!"

To say I was astonished was an understatement.

"Hendrix, why are you..."

I panicked and broke out in a cold sweat. Then it occurred to me that he was supposed to be withRowane. What was he doing here with me?

I frowned and asked, "Why are you here?"

He didn't answer, and before I could press for answers, thunder shook the tent and I instinctivelymoved closer to him. Surprisingly, he put a pair of ear plugs into my ears and didn't comment on myactions.
