Chapter 1037

Fortunately, I still had the branch in my hand. I poked around a few times and noticed that the soilnot far away was hard. I let out a sigh of relief and slightly bent down, trying to reduce the weight ofmy body.

I prayed my momentum slowed and hoped I will not sink so fast

Suddenly, another loud clap of thunder echoed in the hole, followed by the ominous sound ofdrizzling rain.

Hopelessness surged through me. Even if I could get out of the swamp, I couldn't climb out of thecave. Once it rains heavily and the cave floods, I would either die or suffer terrible injuries. Thebigger danger though was what would happen if a landslide occurs. I was afraid that Rainie will beharmed too.

"Arianna, are you alright? It's raining outside, what should we do? Dahlia has been gone for so long. Why hasn't she returned yet!"

Rainie anxiously paced around the hole several times, but she didn't know what to do!

There was already water coming into the hole and the rainwater flowing into the swamp, making it

softer.

My heart sank. I could only fight and gamble for my life. If there is another swamp in front of me,that means my life is over. If not, there might be a chance of survival.

I took a deep breath and clenched my fists. Then I jumped out of the swamp with all the strength Ihad in me.

I landed with a thump on the ground. It took me a moment to realize that the ground beneath myfeet was solid. I didn't feel as if I was sinking any further. I breathed a sigh of relief.

There was another rumble of thunder outside. I could hardly hear Rainie's voice. There was thesound of water splashing into the hole. The rainwater mixed with the soil here for a long time mustbe the cause of a swamp forming in this hole.novelbin

The soil here was sparse and loose. This place used to be flat ground. For such a large hole tosuddenly appeared out of the blue? It seemed likely that it was caused by underground digging.

Asherton is located in the southwest and used to be full of forested areas. After many years ofdeforestation activities, it was inevitable that there would be a lot of coal mines underground.

There were few regulations on the industry. The local people owned many mines underground.Although there were many who tried to control the mining activities, the mines had been idle formany years, and it was inevitable that the soil would be soft and unstable.

The soil on the upper part of the land is prone to erosion. Between the damage caused by themines and the torrential rains, the grassy plains that looked stable would suddenly collapse, leavinga huge hole on the surface.

If it was daytime, I would have seen such a big pit. But in the dark night, I had lost my footing andmade a misstep. If I wanted to climb out of here, I needed help.

"Arianna, can you hear me? Are you alright? Someone's coming. Well get you out. Don't worry!"Rainie's voice called to me from the entrance of the hole.

I responded, "Okay, you be careful too!"

I was worried that someone would accidentally fall into the swamp. I shouted, "When you comedown, bring a flashlight with you. There is a large swamp below. Don't fall into it."

A voice came from above and replied, "Okay!"

After a while, there was light in the dark hole. I stood still and didn't dare to move. The person whowas coming down was a man, so I assumed that it is Sebastian.

I said, "Sebastian, watch out. There's a swamp in this hole, and the soil is very soft. I'm afraid thatwe will sink again. Be careful!"

He didn't reply. He had a rope tied around his waist. With one hand holding the flashlight whilefinding his footing on the soil, he supported himself on the soft ground with his other hand andwalked in my direction.
