"Are you acting up now?" A voice spoke.
I looked up and saw that the voice belonged to Hendrix. He stood not far away and was looking atme, a hint of helplessness in his eyes. I instinctively tried to stand up.
Then again, I thought there was no point trying to fix my image as he had already seen this side ofme, so I gave up, tired.
Somewhat irritated, I said, "It's none of your business!"
He took a step forward, saying, "I'm not trying to butt into your business, but are you going to ruinthese pears, that were picked through so much work?"
I pursed my lips, paused, and picked up the fruits that were covered in mud. I held it out to him andasked, "Are you satisfied?"
He looked as if he was holding back a smile.
He didn't take it, instead he just looked at me and said, "Get up then, Master Attwood is still waitingto eat these!"
After that, he left. He probably didn't even want to help me. My breath hitched for a moment. Did hecome here just to watch me make a fool of myself?
I was completely covered in mud. When I arrived at the base, Hugo was sitting on the steps andresting. When he saw me, his jaw dropped.
"Miss Reid, did you fall into a trap?"
I pursed my lips in shame. "Sort of!"
Fortunately, he still had a sense of conscience. He held back his laughter and took the fruits frommy hand, which were covered in dirt, and then walked off to wash them.
He looked back and said, "There is a bathroom over there at the base. You should hurry and take awash. But you don't have any clothes with you, so if you don't mind, I could lend you mine for thetime being!"
Aside from this solution, I couldn't think of any other way at the moment. What more could I do?
Nodding, I said, "Okay, thank you!"
He smiled and said, "You're welcome. Go ahead!"
My mud-covered self attracted stares as I walked. I didn't blame them, I did look like I took a roll inthe mud.
When I finally reached the bathroom, I saw Evan standing at the front, looking at me, "Miss Reid,Mr. Roberts told me to get you these clothes!"
I saw that he was trying hard to hold back his laughter.
I couldn't help the humiliation in my heart but I ignored it and showed that I was unaffected. I tookthe clothes in his hand and let out the temper that I was holding in for most of the day. I said angrily,"Tell Hendrix that I won't thank him for giving me these clothes at all. I'm doing this because of him.At least he has a conscience and knows to send me clothes."
Evan nodded with a smile on his face and said, "Miss Reid, go in and take a bath first then. I'll standguard here for you. Go ahead!"
It was because there were only men on this side of the base, so there wasn't any division betweenmen and women bathrooms. Fortunately, the bathrooms were single stalls.
I nodded. When I saw Hugo coming over with the clothes in his arms, I said gratefully, "I haveclothes here. Thank you!"
When he saw this, he smiled and said, "No problem, I'll be heading for work now then."
After washing myself in the bathroom, I came out with the muddy clothes in my hands. The clotheswere covered with dirt. I rinsed my clothes, but because had no way to dry them, I had to fold themup and put them back in the bag.
When I came out, Evan looked me up and down. Seeing that I was all cleaned up, he said in aserious tone, "Miss Reid, I'll go first."

After a busy day, I originally intended to go home already. But I met Hugo who invited me to dinner."Miss Reid, Evan just came to inform me that we will be having dinner together later. So don't headhome just yet!"
I frowned. "Didn't we just eat together earlier?"
