Chapter 1016

I turned to leave. There was no need for me to stay and be a third-wheel.

However, Hendrix suddenly called out to me, "Miss Reid, did you get the fruits?"

Stopped in my tracks, I looked over to my empty bag. "Not yet, but aren't you picking some withMiss Zanes? I don't think Master Attwood would need so many, so I think I should leave."

"Since you're already here and it's so hot, please pick a few more so we can all eat together. Right,Miss Reid?" Rowane spoke as she moved closer to Hendrix, showing off their intimacy.

I answered calmly, "Okay then, I'll pick some!"

I walked around the orchard and saw a sturdy-looking pear tree, its fruits well within my ability toreach for it.

Rowane lingered around me, like an unwanted shadow. Suddenly, her hand appeared out ofnowhere, snatched a pear from the pile I had gathered, and took a bite. She winced inexaggeration, saying, "This is so sour, Miss Reid, Who'd eat this? It's such a waste!"

I dismissed her with a look and said, "If you don't want to eat it, then others will. If you think this issour, then go ahead and pick your own fruit!"

Ignoring her, I looked around for another tree to pick the pears from. She then shouted loudly, "Thisone doesn't look too bad, Miss Reid, why don't you climb up and pick it!"

I looked up at the fruit tree that she was pointing at and pursed my lips. Was she crazy? There weremany trees that were just a few meters tall so the fruits could reach the sun. However, such a talltree was not that easy to pick from.

"I don't know how to climb trees!" I bit out and didn't intend to say anything more to her.novelbin

"Really?" She looked at me, surprised, "Mr. Roberts said that you used to live in the countrysidewhen you were younger. And you can't even climb this?"

Speaking of Hendrix, where was he? I frowned and looked at her. "That's what Hendrix told you?"

She nodded and said gloatingly, "Yes, he told me a lot of things about the past!"

I nodded and didn't intend to talk further.

Seeing that I was about to leave, she stood in my path and said, "The fruits of this tree must be verysweet. Why can't you just climb up and pick a few? How can you be so selfish? Who'd eat all thesour fruit you'd picked so far?"

I took a deep breath. I was annoyed. I faced her squarely and said, "So? Don't you have hands andfeet? Why don't you climb it and pick it yourself? If you think climbing a tree is such a piece of cake,go ahead and do it yourself then. I'm not stopping you."

What a psycho!

"Arianna, you.. sure are selfish!" She was so angry that she couldn't find any other words. Soflustered, she could only curse me.

I wasn't interested in talking to her anymore and continued to pick more fruits for me to bring home.

Hendrix walked over with a bag of fruits then. He looked at us and asked, "What's wrong?"

"Mr. Roberts, you're back!" Rowane said. She sauntered over to Hendrix and said, "Look at the fruiton this pear tree. They look big and tender from a distance, they look especially delicious."

Hendrix nodded and said calmly, "This tree looks a little tall. It won't be easy to climb up."

Rowane nodded and said pitifully, "I had heard that Miss Reid was quite skilled at climbing trees. SoI asked her to give it a try."

I was speechless, these two people were a little crazy.

I didn't intend to linger near the two of them, so I prepared to leave. However, Hendrix looked at meand said in a rather gentle tone, "The pear tree in Hovell was taller than this. Anne said that youwould climb and pick from it every year. Why don't you just give it a try?"
