Chapter 261

Third person's POV

"Catherine is Blake's mate. Both you and I know the connection between mates. Do you think Blakecan reject Catherine just like that?" asked Emerson suddenly.

"He has to. He is the Lycan King, and I can't accept Catherine as the Lycan Luna. I think the MoonGoddess will guide him to a new mate. Even if he can't find a mate, there are plenty of suitable femalewerewolves in the royal pack who could take on Lycan Luna's responsibilities."

Patricia said and then suddenly sighed.

She continued, "What I am worried about is that Catherine will not accept Blake's refusal. You know thebond between mates. If Catherine is upset, I'm afraid Blake would find it hard to reject her."

"If that's the case, you should talk to Catherine some other time and ask her to stop pestering Blake. This has to end once and for all." Thinking that Catherine might continue pestering Blake, Emerson hadno choice but to be ruthless to her.

Patricia nodded. "Don't worry. I will talk to her about this. I also have to talk to her about custody."

"That's tricky. I doubt that Catherine will leave the kids to us." Emerson frowned.

Patricia struggled with this, too. She didn't mean to be cruel to her. She had spent some time withCatherine. They respected each other, and also got along with each other.

Yet suddenly, they were on opposite sides, which wasn't Patricia's intention.

"I'll talk to Catherine later. To be honest, I admire her as a mother. She is a good mother and taught herkids well. I believe she will make the right choice since she knows what's best for the kids. After all, it's

all for the kids' future." Patricia believed that Catherine was a great mother and a smart woman.Catherine would figure out who would be more suitable to bring up the kids.

"It would be best if she would give up the fight. I'm just afraid she'll say no."

Patricia let out a long sigh. "I'm not going to negotiate with her unless I have to. After all, the kids havegrown up and are sensitive. I don't want them to suffer from any trauma."

"You are right. The kids come first," Emerson agreed.

Blake hadn't been in the mood to work. It took him a long time to get his mind together at the office, butsuddenly he didn't want to go home. He didn't know how he should face his lovely kids, much less hisgrandparents.

So, he called his grandparents and explained why he wouldn't go home. Yet Patricia warned himsternly, "Don't lie to me, Blake. Are you really staying alone at work tonight? Or, are you withCatherine?"

Blake felt a little helpless. "Grandma, don't you trust me anymore? Fine! Feel free to send someone tospy on me!"

Patricia thought for a moment and sighed, "Alright, I know it's hard for you, too. I'll take care of thekids."

Noah and Hedwig returned home with Patricia. They played and laughed, as usual, having a goodtime.

On the other hand, Patricia was distracted while watching them. She was so worried about them as shesaw their innocent smile.

Could they accept the fact that their parents were not getting married?

But there was no other choice. Patricia hoped that the kids would be strong enough to go through thishard time.

"Patricia, it's getting dark. Why aren't mommy and daddy home? Are they going out on a date again?"Hedwig, looking curious, ran up to Patricia and asked.

Hedwig was very dependent, so she figured that her mommy and daddy should come back and playwith her when it got dark.

Patricia suddenly reached out and held Hedwig in her arms, whispering, "Hedwig, your daddy, andmommy might be busy and couldn't come back tonight. I will be with you tonight, OK?"

"What? Why? Why won't they come back? They don't want me anymore?" Hedwig was worried, feelingthat she was not important anymore.

Patricia froze. Though the words were said by Hedwig, who was just a little kid, they sounded veryharsh to Patricia.

Patricia touched Hedwig's long hair and comforted Hedwig gently, "That's not it. Your daddy andmommy love you very much. Don't worry. I'll stay with you tonight. You won't feel lonely."

"But I want my mommy. Mommy always puts me to sleep." Hedwig pouted and looked unhappy.

Hedwig was so timid and dependent; Patricia did not know how to answer her question.

"Patricia, why do you keep silent? Why won't daddy come home? If mommy is busy, I can ask daddy toput me to sleep. I like that too." Hedwig grinned, looking a little shy.

Looking at Hedwig's innocent eyes, Patricia did not know what to tell her and only nodded. "Let's callyour daddy and see if he will come back and take you to sleep!"

"Great! Let's call him now! I'll ask him to go home!" Hedwig laughed.

Patricia felt helpless, and she had no choice but to call Blake.

Hedwig immediately grabbed the phone and said sweetly, "Daddy, aren't you coming home tonight?Where is Mommy? Is she with you?"

When Blake heard Hedwig's sweet voice, he felt the pain in his heart surging up. He almost choked.

In the end, he tried to hold back the sadness and make his voice sound tender as usual. "Hedwig,Patricia will be with you tonight? I have very important work to do. I may not be able to go back!"

"What about mommy? Why isn't she back yet?" Hedwig immediately asked.

"She has something important to do as well. Hedwig, listen, I'm really busy now." Blake could not talk toHedwig anymore, or he would collapse.

"OK then. Noah and I will go to sleep now. I don't want Patricia!" Hedwig said.

"Alright. Just go ahead. Your brother will take care of you." Blake sensed that Hedwig was becomingmore grown-up, and was both pleased and sorry for the kids. They had to go through a lot of setbacksto grow.

After hanging up the phone, Hedwig was very disappointed. "Daddy says he has a lot of things to do,and he won't come back. I don't like it!"
