Chapter 79

Chapter 79

The Stone family and their guests were initially taken aback by Liam’s answer. However, it soonturned to sneers as they eagerly anticipated the spectacle that was sure to follow.

He was a man, a penniless ex-soldier, brazenly making promises. They were all curious to see howhe would pull that off. His bold claim had set the stage, but could he deliver?

The Walker family’s lucrative deals were not low-hanging fruit. In Drunham City, every major familybusiness had their eyes on the prize, yet none had sealed the deal. What chance did a down-and-out nobody from a disgraced family have?

If Liam succeeded, it would be a slap in the face to the high and mighty who had failed. novelbin

Reginald watched Liam’s confident response with a sneer. Remember, you said it yourself! Celenamentioned you’ve just come back from service. Anyone who returns at your age probably couldn’tcut it. So what makes you think you can land a deal that’s had all o Drunham’s elite families at eachother’s throats?” he said icily.

Reginald’s piercing gaze fixed on Liam as he laid down the gauntlet. You have ten days. Pull it off,and I’ll not only welcome Celena back into the Stone family, but I’ll throw you a grand feast andofficially recognize you as my grandson-in-law.”

Reginald had been eyeing the Walker family’s legacy for ages, waiting for the right moment topounce. If the Stones could snag the Walker project, they could skip the whole messy business ofmarrying into the Hughes family, and their social standing would skyrocket.

Let’s not forget about Celena. Sure, she was the black sheep of the Stone family, but blood is blood.Every day she and her kid out there

was another day of gossip for the Stones to endure. It all came back to bite the family in the end.

Plus, with Liam marrying in, they could sweep that kid and the whole sordid past under the rug. Hey,if Liam could actually pull it off, it would show he got the chops. All those high-and-mighty families inDrunham City could not do it, but if he did? Bringing a guy like that into the fold would be like givinga tiger some serious wings.

Talk about a win-win. That was one sweet deal.

Nobody else knew what Reginald was really thinking. They all figured the ten-day deadline was justReginald’s way of giving Liam a hard time. If the bigwig families could not do it, what chance did anobody

like Liam have?

However, out of the blue, Liam piped up, calm as a cucumber, “Ten days? Why bother with tenwhen I only need one?”

Someone mocks, “Quite the lofty claim! Do you think the Walker family’s project is up for grabs, likecheap veggies at the market? Meeting them is a feat in itself, let alone clinching a deal. You’re livingin a fantasy!”

Cheryl could not resist a sneer, her puffy face twisted in cont

Celena knew Reginald was purposely setting up hurdles. She implo urgently, “Grandpa, Liam’s onlyjust returned. He doesn’t know a sou How can you expect him to land a deal?”

“That’s his concern, not mine. I’m not interested in his methods, only the outcome! If he’s so intenton protecting you, he must prove his worth!” Reginald cut her off with an abrupt snap, his faceetched with impatience.

He looked at Celena with loathing and regret. It was for his past affection that had turned the Stonefamily into the butt of endless jokes.
