Chapter 138

"I've never seen anyone with such audacity! Celena doesn't know any better, so she can't possiblycompare to Cheryl, who's been working in the company for years now. How can you possibly comeup with such an idea, Dad? You might as well just announce that Cheryl has won! It's a no-brainer!"Teresa said curtly.

Reginald slapped the table and turned to Teresa with a scowl. "Teresa, are you questioning myjudgment?"

Everyone was terrified of Reginald, so naturally Teresa shook her head furiously, blushing. "Ofcourse not, Dad-"novelbin

However, Teresa was not the only one thinking this. Everyone else at the meeting thought thesame; Reginald wanted only Cheryl for the job but did not want to appear cruel for not giving Celenaa chance. However, Cheryl would no doubt win this competition, and there was no going around it,so everyone kept their opinions to themselves.

However, they were still displeased over this. They could not understand why Celena was offered achance when their children were not. Was Celena better than any of them? No, of course not! Sheknew nothing about business. If anything, they would rather the project end up in Cheryl's handsthan Celena's.

Celena could hear everyone murmuring about this among themselves. She knew she could notstand a chance against Cheryl when it came to running a business, so she turned to stare ratherblankly at Liam.

Celena was silent for so long that Reginald could not help shooting her a glare. "Why aren't yousaying anything, Celena? Do you agree with this plan or not?"

Before Celena could reply, however, Liam stepped forward and answered on her behalf, "We agree, sir! We'll go along with this and compete fair and square!"

Reginald then called the meeting to an end. Even after everyone left, Cheryl and Sherah stayedbehind and approached Celena, sneering. Cheryl crossed her arms in front of her and said with alook of contempt, "How naive are you, Celena? You'll never win against me! I'll become the rightfulproject director, and you won't even stand a chance!"

"Come on, Cheryl, it's not good to be too cocky. How can Celena know better? She's never evenstepped foot in the office building before, so how can she possibly come up with an even betterbusiness proposal than yours? I'm sure even the janitor knows more about running a business thanher!"

With that, Cheryl and Sherah sauntered away, cackling, leaving behind a bewildered Celena andLiam.

The meeting room was now empty. Celena took two steps back and slumped into her chair, hereyes brimming with tears. "Liam, I'm terrible at this! I don't know a single thing about running abusiness! I'm sorry for disappointing you."

Celena's entire mind was filled with dismay, regret, guilt, and shame. She could not stop her tearsfrom falling anymore. Tears slid down her cheeks, and she clutched her sleeve tightly as shesobbed.

Liam knew that Celena needed time to find her confidence again, so he stepped forward and pulledher into his arms. "Celena, please have some faith in yourself! You were an extraordinary womaneven before we met! You're intelligent and quick on your feet—I'm sure you'll pick up the reins in notime! It's okay. There's still plenty of time until the project starts, so I'll help you come up with yourbusiness proposal during this time!"
