Chapter 747

Esther gazed at Thomas’ photograph on the tombstone, tears welling in her eyes. She used to wonderwhy Thomas had been so kind to her, and now she understood it was because of her mother.

She recalled a time when Liliane would often ask Billy why Esther could marry Bradley while shecouldn’t. She questioned why Martin treated them so differently.

The mystery from those years had finally been solved today, but she couldn’t do anything now. Thomasand Martin were no longer with them. She couldn’t repay their kindness.

Esther told Thomas inwardly, ‘Grandpa Thomas, I’m sorry. I have to divorce Bradley. I can’t grow oldwith him as you wished. I’m sorry.’

Clark’s eyes welled up with tears as well. “Mr. Thomas, I can’t watch over Bradley anymore. He’llgradually push everyone out of his life.”novelbin

“Thomas, Martin, I’ll visit you again,” Gabriel said, raising a glass to the empty air and toasting his twoold friends. He had seen friend after friend leave this world while he still carried the weight of the past.He was exhausted.

Clark drove the group away after they paid their respects and said their goodbyes. Gabriel sat in thefront seat, with Esther and Felix in the back.

As they approached an intersection, an out-of-control cement truck barreled toward them.

Clark spotted the danger and immediately swerved. The car collided with the cement truck—the impactsent it in the air, rolling and tumbling toward the roadside. Shattered glass could be seen all around.

In that critical moment, Esther instinctively shielded Felix, who was in a child safety seat, with her body.Felix clutched her hand, and they held each other tightly.

Clark was an experienced driver and instinctively put himself in harm’s way to protect the others in thewith the scent of blood, but the passengers remained inside due to their seatbelts.

Urgently, Esther unbuckled her seatbelt and nudged Felix. “Felix, wake up!”

Ignoring her own injuries, she first released Felix from the child safety seat, carrying him to safety. Shethen returned to the wreckage to rescue Gabriel, but he waved her off. “Esther, I’m fine. Check on Clarkfirst.”

Although Gabriel protested, she saved him next. They then worked to rescue the unconscious Clarkdespite their own injuries. “Clark! Clark! Clark!”

Esther’s hands were stained with Clark’s blood as she frantically dialed 911. “Hello, 911? I’m at… I’mat…”

Esther was disoriented and unsure of their location, struggling to describe their situation to thedispatcher.

Gabriel took the phone and provided the necessary information, “We’re at the fifth crossroad to the eastof the cemetery. There’s been an accident. Please send an ambulance immediately.”

As Esther looked at the blood-covered Clark, her vision blurred with vivid red.
