Chapter 709

Bradley loosened his grip on Kevin’s collar and took a seat on a bench across from the operating room.He sat still as a statue.

Suddenly, a bolt of lightning streaked across the night sky, casting its eerie glow on Bradley’s somberface through the window.

Kevin stayed motionless. Despite the room’s warmth, an icy chill seemed to seep into his bones.

After what felt like an eternity, Jasper, soaked from head to toe, rushed down the corridor. He wentstraight to Kevin, panting heavily, and asked, “How is she?”novelbin

“They’ve declared her condition critical.”

Jasper staggered, steadying himself against the wall. “So serious?”

Kevin’s voice trembled as he replied, “When she arrived, she looked no different from a lifeless body.Jasper, whether she survives this is left to fate.”

Jasper muttered in disbelief, “How could this happen?”

Kevin fell silent.

Bradley had no intention of asking Kevin why Jasper was present.

Jasper glanced at Bradley and calmly asked, “Warner, are you satisfied now?”

Kevin looked at Jasper, his voice hoarse. “Jasper, let’s not discuss this now. I’m going in to check onher.”

“Very well.”

After thoroughly disinfecting himself, Kevin entered the operating room. The doctors inside appearedgrim and tense.

“Dr. Slade.”

“Dr. Slade.”

“Dr. Slade.”

Kevin responded briskly. He initially aimed to assert his authority over Bradley, fearing that Bradley’sbehavior might create psychological pressure on the doctors. He worried it could make them hesitantand anxious while treating Esther.

“What’s the situation?” he asked.

Glancing at Esther’s electrocardiogram, Kevin swiftly understood the severity of her condition, whichwas worse than he had expected.

“We’ve declared her condition critical,” one of the doctors stated. “This patient has endured brutalabuse. Her body is covered in bruises, there are bite marks in multiple places, and signs ofinflammation.

“The liver donation wound is infected, she suffered a traumatic head injury, and the blood loss wasexcessive…”

The doctor who operated on Esther was unaware of her true identity. “We’ve taken some photos, just incase they might be needed as evidence.”

Kevin acknowledged them with a nod and said, “Focus on her treatment.”

“Understood.”

Upon hearing about the photos, Kevin picked up a nearby camera and examined the pictures. Hearingdescriptions couldn’t compare to the shock of seeing Esther’s injured body up close.

Kevin had never imagined that Bradley would treat Esther in such a manner, especially when he sawone particular photo, a dreadful suspicion crossed his mind.

As a doctor, Kevin was aware that Bradley had developed psychological issues due to the events fiveyears ago. He held an intense aversion toward women, which was evident in his actions.

Kevin recalled something Bradley had mentioned earlier and left the operating room.

“Bradley, is Esther an exception for you?” he asked.
