Chapter 640

Esther had been deeply hurt, and her heart had grown cold.

“I can be trusted,” Esther reassured Jolene. “I hope you won’t go down the same path as me.”

Jolene gazed at Esther, her mind in a haze. She absentmindedly touched her abdomen and took adeep breath. “I’ll trust you this time.”

Before leaving the cafe, Esther and Jolene each had a glass of milk.

Chadwick asked coldly, “Are you calmer now? Can you tell me who that man is?”

He was eager to know who had dared to pursue Jolene, someone under his protection.

“Mr. Pendleton, please let me handle this,” Esther said.

Chadwick glared at Esther and sarcastically asked, “Esther, what are your intentions?”

“She’s frightened of you. I’ll speak to her tonight,” Esther replied.

Jolene followed Esther’s lead and sought refuge behind her.

“Very well. Tell her she can forget about keeping the child! Go study abroad after the abortion. Insteadof focusing on your studies, you’ve ended up pregnant out of wedlock at such a young age!” Chadwicksaid.

Jolene hung her head in silence.

Esther awkwardly glanced at Jolene. “I’ll take her home now.”

“I’ll drive you.”

Chadwick drove Esther and Jolene to the spacious apartment he had prepared for her.novelbin

“Think about it. You’re not doing well in your studies at such a young age, so why get pregnant?Raising a child is no simple matter.”

After saying that, Chadwick drove away.

Soon, Jolene welcomed Esther into the apartment.

Upon entering, Esther immediately noticed that it was a place belonging to a single girl, filled withstuffed animals.

“Please have a seat,” Jolene said before fetching a cold cola from the fridge.

Despite the winter chill, she drank the chilly soda without hesitation, downing more than half of it beforeletting out a burp with a smile.

“Would you like some?” she asked.

Esther politely declined, saying softly, “I don’t drink cold beverages, and I suggest you avoid them too.”

“No way,” Jolene replied. “I feel like there’s a fire burning inside me. If I don’t have something cold, I’llcombust.”

Esther smiled and explained, “You’re pregnant, and an increase in body temperature is normal.”

“Is it?” Jolene sat cross-legged on the carpet, leaned back against a large red teddy bear plush toy, andgazed at the distant city lights.

“Did you know? He found me by chance.

“My dad was an anti-drug police officer who died in the line of duty.

“My mom died in a car accident as a result of drug dealers seeking revenge. I ended up living with myaunt and uncle.

“My aunt treats me well, but my uncle is a scoundrel. He used to peep at me while I showered throughthe bathroom door crack. I told my aunt about it.

“They had a big fight over it, and my uncle tried to harm me, the supposed jinx, with a kitchen knife. Iwas so scared that I ran away without even putting on shoes! I ended up in a bar.

“I was being harassed in that bar when I met him.

“He saw how pitiful I was, how I had nowhere to go, and brought me here.”
