Every word from Chadwick felt like a poisonous dart piercing Esther’s heart. She numbly nodded andreplied, “I understand.”
Chadwick seemed satisfied with her response and softened his tone. “The Pendleton staff will bringyou meals and attend to Mandy. Take care of yourself. Don’t bring shame to the Pendletons at thewedding.”
Esther remained silent and nodded again.
