Chapter 230

Pale with fear, Esther was comforted by Felix, who whispered in her ear to calm down. She gesturedfor silence, fearing that any noise would attract the black-clad men’s attention. outside the corridor.

Esther felt a sense of gratitude that they hadn’t run out into the open field earlier. They would havebecome easy targets in the waist-high wild grass if they had. Worry flickered in Esther’s bright eyes asshe looked down at the dust on her white shoes.

The stairwell they had just escaped from was filled with thick dust. Once the black-clad men upstairswoke up, they would easily track her through the footprints.

What should they do now?

Esther was frantic and at a loss. She had given up hope that Bradley would come to her rescue. It wasup to her to find a solution.

Bumping her head lightly against the wall, she regretted wasting her time in prison, grieving over thedeaths of her children. If she had known what terrors awaited her upon release, she would havefocused on studying, reading books, and learning self-defense.

‘Self-defense…”

Suddenly, Esther remembered the wise words of Granny Grace, an elderly woman with medical skillsshe had met in prison. She forced herself to calm down and carefully considered Granny Grace’sadvice.

Granny Grace had emphasized the importance of not panicking and thinking of a solution in anysituation. As long as one was still alive, there was always a chance in life.

Esther glanced at the chicken bone stained with blood in her hand. After a moment of contemplation, she held Felix’s small hand and used her finger to write in his palm: “Felix, later I’ll distract them so youcan quietly slip away and call the police?”

Felix shook his head and wrote in her palm: “Together.”

Esther held Felix tightly, leaned close to his ear, and whispered, “Felix, if you go call the police, wehave hope. But if you don’t, both of us…”

Esther didn’t finish her sentence as the sound of a car engine in the distance caught their attention. They pressed against the door to get a glimpse outside and saw an ambulance parked nearby. A groupof black-clad men emerged, pushing a young man out of the ambulance.

“He’s so young…”

“The boss said to find a young man. Healthy kidneys, you know?”

“Oh… healthy kidneys.”

The black-clad men joked while pushing the young man inside.

“The elevator’s here. You guys stay down here.”

Esther’s heart sank. She and Felix would be in danger if they brought the person to the

operating room and discovered the two black-clad men who had fainted in the bathroom. She

quietly guided Felix to the window and carefully placed him outside through the open window. Felixheld onto the window ledge, looking at Esther anxiously. “Mommy, let’s escape together!

“Felix, Mommy will teach you an important lesson now. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket, understand?”

Esther had no other choice. Felix, was just a child, and hiding was easier for him.

“You’re the best, my son. Mommy believes in you.”

Felix crouched silently in the bushes, doing his best to remain hidden.

Esther pushed the door, causing it to creak.

When the black-clad men guarding downstairs heard the noise, they turned their attention towardEsther. Determined to buy time for Felix to escape, she ran frantically, like the wind…novelbin
