Chapter 141

Chapter 141

Shane arrived at the hospital, made his way to Scott’s office, and greeted him. “Scott.”

Scott was pleasantly surprised. “Shane, what brought you here, my friend?”

“I was just passing by the hospital on business and thought I’d drop by to see you.” Shane placed thegift. he was carrying on Scott’s desk and smiled. “I heard you’ve made new discoveries in the field ofartificial hearts. Congratulations!”

“It’s a bit early for congratulations now. Wait until I develop an artificial heart that can truly be implantedin the body, then you can congratulate me,” Scott joked with Shane, the atmosphere lively from thebanter of two clever people.

Scott thought about how Shane had once shown an interest in the goddess he admired and how hehad grown close to her over the years. He felt a sense of pride.

After all, the goddess who was once out of reach now actively contacted him repeatedly because of herchild. He thoroughly enjoyed the way the goddess tried to please and get close to him.

“Shane, do you remember our medical school goddess, Leah?” asked Scott.

Shane thought, ‘If it weren’t for Leah, would I come to see you? What’s so great about a grown manlike you?”

“I do. What about her?” replied Shane.

Scott was pleased with himself as he said, “She’s at the hospital. How about we have dinner togethertonight?”

“I can do that, but I’m not sure if it’s convenient since she’s a married woman,” Shane said with a hint of

bitterness.

Scott instantly thought that Shane still held unresolved feelings and said with a smile, “Shane, I can’tbelieve you’re still such a romantic fool!”

“Don’t talk nonsense. I’m a married man. If my wife hears you, she’ll make me sleep in the doghouse,”Shane said seriously but nonsensically.

“I never expected you to be afraid of your wife!” remarked Scott.

Shane said in a low voice, “Scott, you’re mistaken. I’m not afraid of my wife. I cherish her! She gavebirth to our offspring and takes care of our parents. Shouldn’t I treat her well? But you wouldn’tunderstand this feeling. After all, you married our professor’s most precious gem. You have to treat herlike a queen, right?novelbin

“You…” Scott felt a wave of turmoil. When he was young, he chose a shortcut in life in order to avoiddecades of hard work. Little did he know that this shortcut seemed easy to take but was filled withinvisible dangers.

As a son-in-law, his wife had the support of his professor, and even their children didn’t bear his lastname. The bitterness and sorrows he carried in his heart were indescribable. People only saw hisoutward shine, unaware of the inner pain he had no one to share with.

“Scott, you mentioned that Leah is at the hospital. Why? Is she ill?” asked Shane.

“No, it’s her daughter who’s ill with a serious heart condition. If they can’t find a suitable heart soon, won’t last another three months!” replied Scott.

Shane furrowed his brows. “I remember she only has one daughter. If something happens to herdaughter,

can she handle it?”

“That’s why I suggested having dinner together tonight, so we can chat about our youthful days andcomfort her in her distress,” Scott said, pretending.

“Okay, I’ll ask my wife for permission,” Shane said, playing along.

As Shane sought permission from his wife, Scott had to leave him alone in the ward as he had anemergency surgery to attend to.

Liliane’s spirits remained high inside the ward as she and her mother sifted through wedding proposalssent by a wedding planning company, making their choices
