In the private room, Wendy lifted her head slowly. There were no traces of tears on her face. “Now justwait and see!” Magdalene tugged at the corners of her lips confidently. The only other way to get rid ofthe rumors other than canceling the engagement was to go through with it!
She was certain that Melody was thinking the same thing!
The next morning, when Byron arrived at the office, he noticed that Luther‘s expression was slightlyodd.
“What‘s the matter?” Byron asked, confused. Luther hesitated for a moment, but he could not hold backhis curiosity. “Master, are you and Miss Fuller…” Byron frowned slightly.
“What about us?” Seeing the confusion on his master‘s face, Luther added carefully, “Are you two reallygoing to get married?” He immediately lowered his head after asking. He had heard the rumors firstthing in the morning. Everyone was saying that his master was finally going to get engaged to MissFuller.

Theorders came from… the Chairperson‘s office,” Luther said cautiously. He was shocked to find out aboutthe mastermind too. He even heard that the Chairperson‘s assistant had called all the major mediaoutlets overnight and ordered them to release the news first thing in the morning.

Byron was stunned for a few seconds, then he nodded expressionlessly. “I see. You may leave now.”
Luther nodded. He could tell that his master was in a very bad mood, so he crept out of the office andmade sure not to make a single sound even when he closed the door.
Inside the office, Byron stood up and walked to the floor–to–ceiling window. Looking at the sceneryoutside, he tried to organize his messy thoughts. His parents had brought up his engagement to Wendymany times over the years, but he put it off every time. He thought they would understand what hemeant by that. After six years of persuasion, he never expected them to just bypass his own desiresand announce the engagement to the world at large.
